Senior CGI Art Director

Vancouver, BC

As the Senior CGI Art Director (Retail), you’ll be setting the high-level technical vision for programs, establishing the budget, plan, and timelines for execution, and finally overseeing the creation of creative assets such as animations, images, applications, or environments to realize that vision. 


Internally, this role will be called Senior CGI Technical Director.

Even within a given framework, you can push creative boundaries and have the artistic ability to do it. You know how to modify lighting, play around with composition, and add just the right amount of detail to develop delightful spaces with plenty of personality.


Please note: At Article, we are calling this role a “Technical Director” BUT you will NOT have any direct reports. You will be the director of the "technical work", not the people.

CGI enables Article to expand the horizons of the eCommerce shopping experience in many new ways, including augmented reality, product and space configurators, and beyond.This transformative approach offers us the speed and flexibility to remain highly competitive and carve out new ways to impress customers and gain market share.


Team size - The team is hiring, currently at 5 people and growing to 10 total.


We are a hybrid team - you'll be in the office 3 days per week.


What You'll Do:

  • Oversee the generation of high-quality 3D visualizations and animations for marketing applications.
  • Act as a bridge between art and engineering disciplines (visualisation and design) to solve multi-disciplinary problems while building and maintaining a centralized suite of artist tools.
  • Seek out and develop solutions to resolve workflow bottlenecks or asset quality issues through standardization and automation.
  • Collaborate with other tech artists and engineers to work with art leadership to research and implement the latest industry trends/best practices that expand our production capabilities.
  • Advise on the creation and maintenance of asset pipelines for partner teams looking to adopt 3D content.
  • Collaborate with CGI Manager & Creative Director to implement and contribute to Brand Creative guidelines and standards for 3D assets and Computer Generated Imagery. To ensure the CGI team can deliver within those guidelines.
  • Translate and convey design intentions into compelling customer-facing assets and interior concepts.
  • Own the execution of your vision and ideas to CGI Artists both internally and externally.
  • Oversee aspects of the CGI production process, including ensuring best-in-class quality of images. 
  • Work with Stylists to decorate and place furnishings to enhance visualizations.
  • Work with the Visualization Artists to develop tools/workflows required for project/production to enhance workflow.
  • Identify and conceive essential features to improve and optimize CGI pipelines and communicate them to key stakeholders.
  • Review asset submissions to verify quality and confirm deliverables follow specific workflows.
  • Creatively mentor and develop Stylists and Visualization Artists— and help create a dynamic, fun, and supportive culture for our Particles.


Who You Are:

  • 7-10 years of professional 3D visualization experience.
  • Proficiency in Proficiency in 3DS MAX, VRAY, Adobe Substance.
  • Proficiency in High Poly Sculpting workflows. 
  • Experience in furniture, interior and/or architectural visualization is a nice to have. 
  • Excellence in Interior Design, Styling and/or Photography.
  • Experience in animation for media and marketing applications.
  • Passionate about making shopping for a beautiful space radically easy.
  • Detail - keen eye for judging quality of Computer Generated Imagery.
  • Excellent communication skills - Give feedback, take feedback,help others and ask for help when needed.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
  • Completion of criminal background check.

Prorated 

The expected salary is $110,000 to $120,000. The actual base pay can increase beyond this range and will be based on various factors, including transferable skills, training and certifications, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
