The Role

  • Site Reliability Engineer is responsible for the integrity and technical consistency of IT products and solutions. The role of an SRE is to align Chevron’s SRE framework with Agile/DevOps transformation, facilitate SRE technical assessments, coach agile teams on SRE maturity via principles and best practices, lead SRE implementation efforts, and accelerate SRE adoption.
  • SRE works with SRE Community of Practice (CoP) thought leaders to define SRE capabilities and best practices, integrates capability framework and builds cross-functional relationships, and aligns with agile chapter(s) & IT leadership (Digital Managers, Product Managers, Product Owners, System Architects, RTEs, Scrum Masters).


As a SAP Basis Site Reliability Engineer, you will:

  • Learn Chevron’s SRE framework, facilitate SRE technical assessments, identify gaps, and provide recommendations to product teams on SRE maturity journey plans.
  • Lead SRE implementation efforts in reducing technical debt, align strategic and tactical delivery to accelerate SRE adoption in digital platforms.
  • Advise on implementation roadmap, training, governance, and metrics. Optimize, automate, and eliminate toil/operations support activities.
  • Effectively and efficiently lead product line agile teams in troubleshooting and resolving system problems, performing postmortem analysis, addressing current application requirements and performance issues.
  • Align, collaborate, and build relationships with peers, company leadership, subject matter experts and users to improve knowledge of IT resiliency with end-to-end DevOps through Site Reliability Engineering best practices.


Requirements

  • Skilled/Mastery level hands-on experience as an IT professional with Computer Science/ Management Information Systems (MIS) degree or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience in designing, constructing, and operating production systems on a large scale.
  • Demonstrated experience in on-prem and cloud architecture, Azure cloud and Linux OS, performance monitoring & management, troubleshooting (application and database), change management, API integration, and process automation.
  • Self-motivated SAFe Agilist/DevOps practitioner with hands-on CI/CD pipelines experience; preferred knowledge of Microsoft Azure DevOps (ADO), Ansible, PowerShell, KQL, Shell scripting and/or .NET framework.


Skills

  • SRE Capability - to leverage knowledge and best practices of Site Reliability Engineering such as SLO, SLI, and SLA definitions to establish error budgets with customers, eliminate toil via automation, perform emergency response (triage, postmortem, retrospective), analyze business needs with architects to plan demand forecast and provide capacity planning, understand chaos engineering for resiliency, and to inspire others in supporting Chevron’s Agile/DevOps transformation. Capable of delivering customer centric end-to-end solution via best practices and team collaboration.
  • Software Engineering – Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and software engineering best practices, including code management (Git/GitHub), automated testing, and CI/CD pipeline. Preferred programming languages: C#.net, Python, Java, etc… Database: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle.
  • Communication and Teamwork – Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, consider the views and concerns of others, achieve objectives through teamwork, and deliver consistently on commitments.
  • Autonomous Motivation – Ability to work independently with minimal guidance to achieve defined technical/business objectives. Excellent time management, organizational skills, crisis management and problem-solving skills are essential. Ability to grasp new technologies and translate into business value.
  • Agile Methodologies – Fundamental understanding of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices (e.g., SAFe PI Planning, value stream mapping, and scrum ceremonies).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAP BASIS Certifications
  • Experience in administering SAP Cloud Platform (SCP)
  • Experience in configuring HANA encryption, SAP Data Custodian and Thales Vormetric Transparent Encryption (VTE)
  • Experience with using Microsoft service/technology Cross Site Replication (CRR), Azure Site Recovery (ASR), Azure NetApp Files (ANF) volume cloning

Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,200 – $220,000.
