Safety Specialist

Woodland, WA

We are looking for an experienced Safety Specialist in our up-and-coming facility in Woodland, WA to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legislation. This position will perform regular safety audits and inspections, and assist with the administration of safety policies and continuous improvement assessments to reduce risk to the safety of our team members. This role will report directly to our National Safety Director.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that there are no potential health or safety hazards to workers, that workers and the employer have been apprised of their responsibilities, and that first aid services and equipment meet current criteria
  • Undertake compliance audits and ensure the company, site, and team members are compliant
  • Participates in investigations, assist with identification of root causes, and develop corrective actions
  • Inspecting workplaces (including equipment) to ensure that a safe work environment is being maintained and work procedures reflect effective accident prevention practices
  • Monitors Emergency Response Plans and takes appropriate action in response to any emergency
  • Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with local Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Consult and educate team members on occupational health and safety matters
  • Coordinate education and training for all team members in OH&S systems, legislative and regulatory requirement and safe working practices
  • Attend and participate in monthly OH&S meetings
  • Promote a workplace that is a proactive safety culture
  • Implement and train new or existing training programs to team members as needed
  • Maintain records for safety programs (i.e. training logs, reports, inspections)
  • Maintain a positive relationship with regulatory bodies (OSHA, DOT, EPA, and State/Local Regulators)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ability to work overtime

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Two (2) or more years with direct hands-on safety experience in a warehousing, manufacturing or transportation operation
  • First Aid Level 2
  • Associate’s Degree majoring in safety, occupational health, environmental science, risk management engineering, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience and/or a minimum (5) five years’ of safety experience with OSHA certifications
  • Some previous experience working with government agencies in the U.S. and Canada is considered an asset
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage large amounts of data
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Display strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to remain productive with frequently changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to gain a complete understanding of our product line
  • Ability to work independently
