Route Operations Supervisor

Yarmouth, ME

The Route Operations Supervisor (ROS) is responsible for achieving sales and freshness growth, people growth, and brand health by leading the execution of DSD Excellence, ensuring critical market sales initiatives are executed effectively in the marketplace and ensuring the attainment of world-class sales centers that demonstrates engagement in the marketing strategies and vision of the Company’s brands.


The ROS will support the execution of the sales Direct Store Delivery Excellence (DSDE) Playbook by training/onboarding and developing Route Sales Professionals/Independent Business Partners, as well as, supporting the Operations Sales Leaders throughout the operational work streams in service of the Frontline sales professionals with the objective of driving growth of the business and of people.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the orientation of Independent Business Partners on order management, handheld computers, and merchandising best practices, ensuring all Business Partners are set up for the growth of their business and BBU’s
  • Responsible for the development and continuous learning of Route Sales Professionals by onboarding and delivering on-going training
  • Identify and execute on all growth opportunities to grow market share on strategic brands through the execution of incremental displays
  • Utilize sales data to help drive effective decisions with the frontline salespeople as well as drive brand growth with customers through the acquisition of new space and displays
  • Engage salespeople in all facets of planning route sales activity, including order management, daily distribution, merchandising, promotional activity, and holiday planning in order to meet the customers’ in store expectations
  • Establish effective customer relationships to initiate and maximize sales in retail, restaurant, and institutional customers; ensure client retention by exceeding expectations with new and current customers
  • Engage and develop salespeople, helping to grow core competencies through training, coaching, mentoring, and consistent performance feedback in order to grow our people and our overall business
  • Coach on Order Management disciplines per the DSDE Playbook to maximize freshness
  • Leads consistent execution of the DSD Excellence world-class sales practices in the market
  • As needed, assists in the completion of day to day sales center operational needs. Including but not limited to:
  • Shipping and product accountability activities
  • Execution of equipment inventories, basket resets, and store reset events
  • Achieves the sales center safety goals; deliver on safety awareness programs accordingly to eliminate unsafe acts and eliminate workplace injuries
  • Responsible to cover open Independent Business Partner routes until a buyer is found
  • Provide route coverage for unplanned vacancies in Route Sales Professionals and Independent Business Partners when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned.


Selling Capabilities

  • Deliver on key performance indicators for territory: revenue, Variable Contribution Margin (VCM), returns
  • Utilizes data tools to analyze business and identify store-level opportunities
  • Utilizes tablet and sales data daily to drive effective decisions at store
  • Establishes and maintains strong customer relations exceeding customer expectations
  • Monitors results against plan and takes appropriate actions to achieve objectives
  • Shares performance data with store and frontline salespeople


Retail Best Practices

  • Consistently follows a all the steps of store visit and the Golden Path Tour in store
  • Utilizes DSDE Shelf Best Practice to ensure adherence to brand and store planograms
  • Utilizes DSDE Display Best Practices to drive optimal sales and world-class merchandising presentation
  • Creates and acts upon secondary display opportunities within store to meet DSDE Optimal Display Placements

Education and Work History:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred.
  • A combination of education, training and experience that results in demonstrated competency to perform the work may be substituted.


Ideal candidate will possess:

  • 4 – 6 years of working experience with at least 1-year warehouse/distribution management, DSD, or route operations experience preferred but not required.
  • At least 1-year experience leading and influencing others preferred by not required.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service and solve customer issues as they arise.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and oral) skills and detail oriented. 
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. 
  • AS400 experience a plus


Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a DOT Medical Card. 


Physical Requirements:

  • Able to use a variety of communication methods on frequent basis.
  • Use a notebook computer and standard office equipment printers, fax, phone etc.
  • Able to sit, stand, stoop and have use of hand motor coordination regularly.
  • Use various forms of transportation for extended periods of time on periodic basis.
  • Frequent walking.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Push / pull up to 50 pounds.
