Retail Operations, Manager

Hi there, we’re Article. đź‘‹ We are known as an online furniture company creating remarkably better furniture experiences one sofa at a time. However, that is about to change, we’re expanding to physical retail. And as the Retail Manager, Operations you will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of our first location - our Vancouver retail store. In addition to opening our first store, you’ll be creating the operations playbook for all future retail locations.


Why We Need You:

This is new to us, we need retail store expertise on how to best run stores. This includes ensuring all stores meet the company's operational standards, developing and implementing operational policies and procedures, and collaborating with other departments to ensure the overall success of the business. As the Manager of Store Operations you will manage the actual in-store teams and support in opening of new locations across Canada and the USA.


We have an aggressive goal to get our first location open this fall!

About the Retail team:

To start you’ll be working out of our HQ, we are a hybrid team - you'll be in the office 3 days per week. As the store goes through it’s build out phase and opens, your time will transition to being 5 days a week in store. 


What You’ll Do

  •  Develop and implement a comprehensive store operations strategy that aligns with the company's overall growth objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Retail Expansion to ensure all stores meet the company's operational standards, including customer service, sales, inventory management, visual merchandising, and safety.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures that improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including merchandising, marketing, and real estate, to ensure the overall success of the business.
  • For the Vancouver store act as store manager and then hire a replacement store manager. 
  • For future retail locations, conduct regular store visits to assess performance, identify areas for improvement, and provide feedback to the Director of Retail Expansion and store managers.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data to make informed decisions about store operations.
  • Manage the store operations budget, including labor, supplies, and equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and emerging best practices to ensure the company's stores remain innovative and competitive.
  • Present store operations updates to senior leadership and board of directors.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A career focused in retail management, with 3+ years of experience in retail store operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of retail operations, including customer service, sales, inventory management, visual merchandising, and safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, draw insights, and make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration is nice to have.
  • Furniture industry experience is very nice to have.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
  • Completion of criminal background check.

Prorated 

The expected salary is $96,800 to $145,200. The actual base pay can increase beyond this range and will be based on various factors, including transferable skills, training and certifications, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
