As a Rating Analyst, you will participate in the evaluation of the credit quality of governmental enterprises—specifically those financing water and wastewater projects and municipal electric utility agencies—as it relates to their ability to repay debt obligations. You will be responsible for aggregating data and information to present to rating committees. You will interact with clients, make presentations, and prepare reports for internal and external distribution. This position will also include managing and processing large data sets.

Rating analysts are a key part of the success of the department and make meaningful contributions every day.


Your Skills:  A supportive team is critical to growing the skills of any junior staff member, but a key feature of the position is the ability to work with little supervision. In addition, you should have the ability to think critically and clearly express and defend your opinions verbally and in writing. Quantitative analysis is also part of the everyday work mix, so you should also have demonstrated skills in that area.

  • BS/BA or similar degree with studies in finance, government/public policy, accounting, economics, or similar fields
  • A demonstrated interest in municipal enterprises and how they work
  • Two years of relevant work experience
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well both independently and as part a team
  • Strong ability to work with financial models and data, including cash flow and credit models
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact confidently with clients
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn in both formal and on-the-job settings
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented, and juggle multiple priorities at once
  • Experience with energy or power or an interest in the power sector is desirable

Compensation/Benefits Information:

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $46,200, to $129,200. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location.
