Publishing Manager

New York, NY

TED is hiring a media professional to drive the publishing strategy of our world-renowned talks (and some other stuff, too) on TED’s official YouTube channel. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye, boundless curiosity and direct experience publishing videos to large platforms like YouTube. This is a great job if you're: a spectacular problem-solver with incredible attention to detail; a data nerd who loves a good A/B test and thrives on numbers; and a passionate change-maker interested in TED's mission of spreading ideas. This role is primarily focused on YouTube, with room to expand to other platforms like TED.com and TED mobile app in the future.This is a full-time role that reports to TED’s Senior Director of Programming & Publishing.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the day-to-day publication of TED content on TED’s main YouTube channel, youtube.com/TED
  • Lead optimization strategy for search and discovery of TED content, specifically on YouTube and Google
  • Write and edit compelling copy reflective of YouTube best practices and aimed at improving content performance
  • Support the editorial team in aligning YouTube strategies with TED’s overall editorial vision
  • Collaborate with Audience Development team to understand YouTube analytics and measure and communicate success, with an aim of retaining viewers and subscribers
  • Collaborate closely with teams across TED to coordinate and launch livestream programming and key marketing efforts for new products and initiatives
  • Work closely with Brand Creative to create and maintain a visual branding identity aimed at increasing content discovery, notably on thumbnail images
  • Partner with other publishers at TED, primarily Translators, TEDx and TED-Ed
  • Monitor YouTube comments and develop a long-term engagement strategy for a growing community and archive
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with digital product teams internally at TED and externally at YouTube
  • Edit and proofread English-language subtitles so talks are accessible upon publishing


REQUIRED

  • 3-4 years of digital media experience, including managing a large (50K+ subscribers) YouTube channel
  • Experience using digital content management systems and the ability and enthusiasm to learn new software
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to shift between contexts, from emailing with speakers to evaluating a comment thread
  • Super organized with precise attention to detail
  • Ability to pass a writing and editing test


DESIRED

  • Fluency in second language other than English, especially one of the following: Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese Simplified, French, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish
  • Experience in data or database management and project management tools
  • Community or customer service background.
