Public Relations Director

Wilton, CT

The Public Relations (PR) Director will design and implement marketing strategies that cultivate our relationships with media, engage our target audience and boost our brand awareness while aligning with our strategic brand direction.


How You'll Contribute:

  • Lead the global public relations strategy and implementation for the Cannondale brand, ensuring that communications are aligned with strategic brand direction.
  • Lead global influencer strategy, identification and management.
  • Focuses on global consumer brand PR, global endemic and non-endemic brand PR, global sports marketing communications and the global social media strategy for each brand.
  • In partnership with the regional execution teams, develops and implements the following:
  • Global sports marketing communications strategy
  • Global social media strategy
  • Global Public Relations Strategy
  • Navigate a matrixed organization
  • Prepares plans & monitors and measures progress and budget guidelines.
  • Manages the global PR budget and global PR agency relationship(s)
  •  Acts as lead brand spokesperson, maintaining relationships with key endemic and non-endemic members of the press.
  • Manages processes and policies to ensure global coordination and integration of endemic and consumer PR, including media training, media tracking and reporting and setting KPIs and benchmarks.
  • Highly involved in new product launches, working with product development, marketing and senior management to ensure the most effective strategies possible are used and that products are exhibited in line with corporate strategy and brand direction.
  • Creates a crisis management plan and flow chart.
  • Identifies and informs management of vulnerabilities in strategies and corporate approach that could be portrayed negatively in the media. Suggests mitigation plans.
  • Develops ongoing relationships with allied organizations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information at all times.
  • Develops complete understanding of product and markets served.
  • Travels as needed to marketing/PR-related events.
  • Follow internal controls and company policies as set by company and job function.
  • Contribute to the success of company by leading or assisting with other projects and tasks as assigned
  • Travel – domestic and/or international


What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience in a consumer product PR/media relations management role to include product marketing experience
  • Skilled at storytelling and possess clarity in expression
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Office 365
  • High degree of professionalism and diplomacy in relations with outside media contacts and internal departments
  • Must be enthusiastic with a high sense of urgency
  • Strong people skills
  • Comfort level with senior executives
  • Must be action-oriented in order to set and meet targets, deadlines, and goals
  • Experience preparing PR plans and strategy
  • High commitment and orientation to teamwork
  • Excellent decision-making skills required regarding media placement and utilization
  • Experience in the bicycle and/or sporting goods industry a huge plus
