Product Quality Engineer

Los Angeles, CA

Ensure that products and services are fit-for-purpose and are consistent with external and internal specifications & requirements. The scope covers legal, retailer, and MGAE requirements.


Liaise with project teams over the development lifecycle to ensure process, controls, and checkpoints are appropriately applied and monitored. Where appropriate provide advice regarding design or process changes in order for the project to achieve quality standards.


Engage with Hong Kong and factory QA/QC staff to ensure production quality targets are met during mass production. 


Core Capabilities 

  • Study and interpret Regulatory Requirements affecting toy development and manufacturing and translate these laws into forms, administrative processes and Standard Operating Procedure for MGAE’s Compliance. (Ex.: 16 CFR Part 1107 Testing and Certification). Maintain up to date information. 
  • Evaluate each season FEP product samples selected by compliance risk, new technologies, MKT leaders, performance complexity. Organize multidisciplinary meetings for evaluation of these products with MKT, PD, CS, Design and C/Writers. 
  • Provide the States of Washington, Oregon, Vermont with yearly reports on MGAE/LT product ‘s content of Chemicals of High concern for Children (CHCC). 
  • Organize, upload documentation and maintain the LA QA Management Share Point Site for Global MGAE users. This is a central information-hub for CPC, EC DoC, Toy Safety Standards, test reports, CPSC communications, and ICTI, CTPAT and ISO certificates. 
  •  Support Global MGAE’s Sales, Retailers and MKT teams providing Quality and Compliance information documentation such as CPC, EC DoC, test reports. This includes teams in US, Canada, UK, Benelux and Latin America. As required, work on retailer’s portals such as WM- Retail Link, Target Partners On Line, Amazon Vendor Central and WERCS. 
  • Interpret and provide advice to Product Development, Sales and Marketing teams on Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance for US, Canada, EU, Mexico on toy Safety Regulatory Standards such as US ASTM, EU EN 71, AU ISO 8124, CAN SOR 2011/17, others. 
  • Participate in the Corrective Action and Preventive Action follow up of quality issues for MGAE and Little Tikes toys. 
  • Review LA Copywriter Instruction Manuals and FMA under design for mandatory requirements compliance. 
  • Communicate with Third Party Labs testing of products in US. 


Quickly Learns New Technology, Including 

  • Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job well and applies this expertise accordingly. 
  • Computer literate and experienced with MS Office Suite. 
  • Experience working with ISO 9000 systems, factory auditing, and process mapping is preferred. 
  • Experience in the toy industry or other CG businesses is a bonus.

Qualifications 

  • B.Sc / B.Eng Degree or equivalent experience, a related quality management certification (ASQ, etc.).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, or project / product engineering background.
  • Compliance experience with agency standards for safety or other similar requirements.
  • Computer literate and experienced with MS Office Suite. 


Salary

$85,000 – $110,000 /yr
