Emerging Brands: Funko Games, Mondo
The Emerging Brands division encompasses two important growth brands at Funko: Mondo and Funko Games.
Funko Games is an invention, design, and playtesting studio specializing in board games. Our cadre of creative thinkers and talented tinkerers melds unbounded inspiration with intensive research and rigorous consumer testing to shape best-in-class products. Our office is in the University District of Seattle, WA.
Mondo is a pop culture brand, built for collectors. We work with incredible artists who share our passions to create posters, soundtracks, toys, and more – products that share a rare, unexpectedly vivid, and timeless quality. Originally founded in Austin, TX, our Mondo team now collaborates across the country, with an office in Seattle shared with Emerging Brands.
As part of the Emerging Brands division the role of Product Designer is a full-time hybrid employment position based out of either our San Diego or Burbank CA office. Responsible for graphic design of licensed and non-licensed consumer products.
What You’ll Do
- Design print components and packaging for products published by the Emerging Brands division. Products may include: board games, card games, records (or other music-media), collectible toys, posters, and more.
- Collaborate with producers, game designers, and other creative teams to align vision on assigned projects
- Work with internal and external designers to develop a variety of concepts
- Incorporate client feedback into multiple rounds of design
- Perform pre-press checks and prepare files for production
- Report to management on project status
- Provide submissions of components, instructions, and packaging for licensor review
- Review licensed IP style guides to ensure licensed games remain on brand
- Attend playtesting sessions to observe gameplay that will help inform design
- Share awareness of current trends and in-market products
What You’ll Bring
- 3-5 years of experience in toy, music, or tabletop game graphic design and art development
- 3+ years of experience designing print packaging
- 3+ years of experience doing pre-press/pre-flight checks
- 2+ years of experience working with style guides on licensed products
- Must be a creative solution-seeker who is willing to present many directions to really hit the nail on the head
- Must have the ability to work well under pressure in order to meet scheduled deadlines
- Must have a deep passion for board games, music, or collectible toys
- Extraordinary creativity
- Understanding of the product development process and willingness to absorb creative feedback
- Interest in film, television, and pop culture in general is a big plus
- Proficiency with Mac OS and expert Adobe Creative Cloud skills (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop); ability to illustrate is a huge plus
- Pertinent educational background preferred
Salary Information
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $73,600 - $92,000 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
