Product Designer

Lagrange, GA

The Interface Global Product Design Team creates new products that will be manufactured using tools for tufting, rotogravure printing, and other manufacturing technologies. Insights in global trends, analysis of markets, and expertise with portfolio building and merchandising, are the foundation to the Interface Global Design Team approach in creating a market-leading portfolio of carpet tile, resilient & rubber flooring categories.


We have a position open for a Product Designer, located in LaGrange, GA, whose responsibility will consist of working collaboratively with other product designers, design assistants, Marketing and Portfolio Managers, along with Product Development technicians to create new and innovative designs and color lines for printed, laminated, and engineered flooring products for all Interface brands and business units.


This Product Designer will be responsible for creating patterns, colors, and textures for flooring products from concept to product launch, including concept design, design development, production-ready files, fabrication in manufacturing, and supporting execution of marketing materials and sales training. Job duties include research in market trends; patterns, colors, textures, creating product design simulations, market-relevant color lines, and concept presentations. Travel to industry trade shows, customer visits, on-line customer presentations and events may also be required upon request by the VP, Global Product Design.  The Product Designer must possess excellent skills in drawing, color, creativity, communications, time management, and multi-project management. The Product Designer must love to create and collaborate; with a natural comfort in being interconnected and communicative with colleagues and associates.


Project briefs are presented to the Global Design Team, by the VP, Global Product Design, via customer or seller input. Meeting the needs of each project requires developing products with technical accuracy, dynamic aesthetics, sellable and provocative coloring. During the fabrication phase, traveling to Interface manufacturing facilities in LaGrange and WestPoint, Georgia, along with occasional trips overseas to other Interface manufacturing facilities will be required.


REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • A Bachelor of Fine Art Degree, major in Textiles, Fibers or Graphic Design preferred. 
  • An Associate Degree, four-year college degree, or an advanced degree in another field will be accepted if paired with excellent required experience. 


Experience:

  • 4+ years as a print or textile designer for an interior product design discipline or manufacturer. 
  • 4+ years of experience working within a formal product development process. 
  • Creating digital and/or physical prototyping tools. 
  • Proficient knowledge of commercial interior market segments.
  • Creating product color lines for commercial interiors.
  • Working within a team environment. 


Skills:

  • Excellent proficiency with Photoshop. 
  • Proficiency with In-Design, Illustrator, Ned Graphics, or similar textile design application.
  • Demonstrate ability in creating production-ready designs for rotogravure printing, digital printing, and embossing’s. 
  • Demonstrate ability in creating market-relevant, and inspiring color lines for rotogravure printed products. 
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes for multiple printing, embossing, and other textile design discipline.
  • Professional experience and understanding of the various markets within the commercial interiors.
  • Knowledge of commercial product performance needs and standards.
  • Exceptional aesthetic sense of the design. 
  • Creative passion for design, design history, and modernism.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within strict timelines.
  • Knowledge of 3-D printing a plus.
  • Knowledge of tufting machine types, and/or commercial looms a plus. 
  • Understanding of yarn, yarn construction and yarn systems a plus.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Product Design, Presentation and Data Management

  • Create innovative new designs, constructions, and aesthetics through use and manipulation of the tools specific to the construction for products that will be manufactured and marketed globally.
  • Create presentations including concepts, color lines, digital simulations, and room scenes that may be distributed to all Interface internal stakeholders and manufacturers globally using Adobe and proprietary software, and prototypes. 
  • Collaborate with the Global Product Design Team, including the VP, Global Product Design, Director of Global Product Design, Global Product Design Graphic Designer, and other Product Designers in the development of concepts, products, presentations, and other marketing and or merchandising materials.
  • Deliver inspirational presentations to Marketing, Sales Teams, and Customers upon request by the VP, Global Product Design.
  • Create production-ready, technically accurate files for Interface and its associate manufacturers globally.
  • Participate in the collective keeping of a cohesive and orderly archiving system, either digital or printed, for referencing patterns, relevant constructions, production files and room scenes.

  • Design Studios, Offices and manufacturing facilities in LaGrange, and Atlanta, GA.
  • Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility in West Point, GA
