Product and Brand Senior Communications Manager

Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum.

In this role, the candidate will lead and collaborate on the planning, development and implementation of strategic communications plans and media relations to promote Buick’s vehicle lineup and brand alongside driving strategic storytelling for Buick and GMC Design communications.


his position requires candidates who want to be part of a team that focuses on strategic planning, creative storytelling, audience-based experience development and execution, and media relations. The selected candidate will work daily with marketing, social media, engineering, design, cross-functional communications teams, and leadership to define the brand narrative and drive momentum.


What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Leading strategic communications plans for Buick, including on-going news engine, new features/technology updates, model refreshes and new product launches.
  • Drive media and creative storytelling strategy focused on hard product news, creative product/brand storytelling and brand priorities that target both internal and external (including existing and new) audiences and increase brand exposure.
  • Story-mine and act as consistent link to Buick and GMC Design Studios, especially through reveals/launch and asset development processes. Support Design leadership and SMEs in external media relations efforts.
  • Extend storytelling efforts through brand and nameplate content creation from ideation to execution.
  • Identify, manage, and maintain relationships with existing and new media, content creators and influencers.
  • Grow and challenge existing communications tactics to stay current with how audiences consume information, particularly working with team members to expand work on current and new social media platforms (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and grow related influencer audiences.
  • Manage issues and topics related to the Buick brand and product reputation.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vehicle engineering, marketing, design, and counterpart communications teams.
  • Develop and maintain digital media materials to support storytelling.
  • Manage and fulfill media requests and the media fleet and curated loan opportunities.
  • Develop speeches, presentations, and content for brand activities.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related field.
  • Experienced professional with 5+ Years in public relations or marketing fields.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Curious – Media relations work and consumer behavior understanding involves digging into the issues that are important to our customers and understanding the competitive landscape.
  • Creative – Can develop a very compelling story and unique ways to tell product and brand stories to our target audiences.
  • Tech-Smart – Comfortable with technology. Excited and eager for the future of transportation.
  • Cool Under Pressure – OK with change and ambiguity. Thinks quickly and on-the-fly. Dusts off, gets back up and right back at it. Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can be relied on in a crisis.
  • Analytical mindset – Ability to leverage data and research to drive decision and prioritization around storytelling, including strong product knowledge for GM and competitive vehicles.

  • Leadership – Able to provide frank counsel (be Bold Behavior) and direction to colleagues, subject matter experts and other leaders on strategy, messaging, and crisis management.
