Platform Director, Design

Sunnyvale, CA

Our multi-disciplinary design organization is looking for a detail-oriented Platform Director to lead a team focused on delivering boundary-pushing interactive experiences. At 23andMe, design plays a pivotal role in how people think about genetics, ancestry, health, and lifestyle. Considering every detail, you will help facilitate the creation of highly imaginative, intuitive, beautiful experiences and, above all else, experiences that empower individuals to gain insight into and take action on their personal genetic information.

What You'll Do

  • Guide end-to-end technical development for design across formats and technologies.
  • Establish and push the direction of human interface systems, including but not limited to; animation, grids, information architecture, sound, notifications, and navigation.
  • Initiate and support concepts and designs through partnerships with the Product and Engineering teams and the broader Design organization.
  • Build and strengthen relationships within the group by facilitating the consolidation work from Content, Research, Creative, and Platform to create a unified, cohesive user experience.
  • Support the teams' development through never-ending curiosity, refinement, and excitement of our craft.
  • Lead by example, embracing creative conflict and transforming problems into additive solutions.

 

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of work experience focusing on product design and user interface across various platforms, including TV, web, iOS, and Android. 
  • A strong track record of shipped products and services that demonstrates compelling product direction, showcasing a perspective on the creative process and aesthetic.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams delivering high-quality work while advocating for design, brand, research, and user experience continuity.
  • Experience leading technical discussions with engineering promoting high-quality design systems across all product features and platforms.
  • Experience simultaneously managing a variety of complex features with technical and legal constraints.
  • Ability to pivot through creative problem-solving.
  • Genuine passion for health, science, and education.
  • Bachelors Degree in HCI, Graphic Design, Media Arts or similar a plus.
