Plant Scientist I

Moncton, NB

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Plant Scientist I.


Reporting to the Director of Plant Science, the Plant Scientist I will be responsible for planning, performing and collection samples for various cultivation and biotechnology trials. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant molecular biology and plant disease working with cannabis. The Plant Scientist I will support pipelines and trait dissection and deliver written and verbal reports to project leaders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • This role will involve conducting novel research activities towards discovering markers and traits in the cannabis plant as well as agronomic improvement trials;
  • Assist in the development of tools to improve crop health and yield, such as lighting configuration, irrigation efficiency and nutrient trials;
  • This is a hands-on role and will require management of technical projects, coordinating with other teams and other scientists;
  • Other duties as may be required.


Qualifications:

  • MSc + 3 years' experience or PhD in plant physiology, agronomy, crop science or molecular biology;
  • 2+ years' experience working in a laboratory setting;
  • 2+ years’ experience in an industrial R&D environment;
  • Experience performing molecular and in silico work for RNA-seq, metabolomics and proteomics profiling is a plus;
  • Thorough understanding of molecular biology techniques;
  • Excellent understanding in plant physiology;
  • Strong data and statistical analysis skills;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral English;
  • Clear accountability, proactive mindset with strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and work streams both independently and within a team setting;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
