Photo Studio Woodshop Lead

What you'll do...

The Woodshop Lead will be responsible for overseeing daily operations as well as maintain and ensure safe operations of all woodshop equipment and supplies.

  • Independently maintain and ensure safe operations of the studio woodshop.
  • Oversee daily woodshop operations and conduct daily safety checks.
  • Manage and monitor all users within the woodshop, ensure proper functioning, maintenance and requisition of equipment and tools, including ventilation and dust collection systems.
  • Design and fabricate all needed shop furniture, storage solutions and improvements for the studio.
  • Determine, identify and develop better workflow systems for the building and equipment utilization within the woodshop and studio.
  • Maintain maintenance and inventory logs for all tools and equipment. Identify and develop new standards and procedures where needed and streamline workflows.
  • Monitor all building materials (blades, sandpaper, etc) Manage consumable inventory. Responsible for sourcing and purchasing.
  • Conduct woodshop equipment and safety orientations. Create and deliver orientations for special tools and equipment. Provide instruction and troubleshooting for large builds.
  • Produce and update educational orientation handout and informational sheets for distribution.
  • Determine training needs to accommodate new methods of building.
  • Responsible for implementing and enforcing health, life and safety within the woodshop and studio.
  • Organize and implement all safety training, maintaining records.
  • Serve as a safety liaison between studio and corporate.
  • Coordinate and communicate with studio managers to ensure full facility effectiveness and overall safety practices.
  • Identify and execute facility improvements to ensure alignment with woodshop and studio needs.
  • Research and provide support for capital equipment improvement purchases.
  • Perform touchbase check-ins with Set Builders to help maintain a cohesive working environment.


What you'll bring...

  • 2-5 years of experience working in woodworking, maker labs or setting equivalent
  • Bachelors in Art, Design or equivalent
  • Experience with technical teaching and training
  • Familiarity with a broad range of physical materials and proficiency in multiple approaches of woodworking
  • Knowledge of multiple fabrication methods with an ability to demonstrate those methods
  • Comfortable working with hand/power tools, such as table saws, band saws, sanders, routers, drills, etc
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot problems with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge and commitment to health and safety as it applies to the studio
  • Develop organizational and task management skills; strong, oral, and written communication skills
  • Adaptability and ability to multitask with attention to detail
  • Ability to lead and delegate within team structure
