Payroll Manager

Kansas City, MO

Come join our team! The Payroll Manager is a critical member of our team and will own payroll processing and reporting. In this role you will work both independently and collaboratively with other teams across the Company and with the Accounting and Finance team. This role will report to the VP of Accounting.


You will:

  • Own payroll processing and review for all employees including both salaried and hourly including on-cycle and off-cycle pay periods, final paychecks and bonus payouts. Assist with the registration for new State/SUI/Local payroll tax as needed.
  • Publish semi-monthly payroll and headcount metrics and dashboards.
  • Partner with the People team to ensure accurate processing of new hires, terminations, raises, bonuses, and leaves of absence.
  • Maintain payroll tool by managing and auditing data from various sources (including, but not limited to: internal portals, tax authorities, ancillary medical benefits, benefit enrollment systems, retirement portals, COBRA, etc)
  • Partner with FP&A and People teams to obtain bonus achievement inputs.
  • Support related state and federal statutory filing requirements. 
  • Act as the main contact for all payroll related matters and provide prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service to employees who have questions regarding their pay, deductions, and the payroll process.
  • Support successful execution of annual audit activity (corporate financial statements, 401K, etc), by managing PBCs, supporting the preparation of in-depth analysis.
  • Participate in the implementation of changes to policies, procedures, and systems to facilitate growth, compliance and scaling of the business.

You have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or other quantitative discipline.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred but not required.
  • 4-6 years of payroll experience including familiarity with both salaried and hourly employees across multi states.
  • Experience with seasonal employee base preferred, but not required.
  • Advanced excel skills required (critical to success in the position); experience with Paylocity, Quickbooks, NetSuite, Bill.com and Expensify a plus.
  • High acumen around critical thinking and organization
  • A proactive approach to communication, analysis and problem solving.
