Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Northridge, CA is currently seeking a Sr. Payroll Assistant to join our team.


In this role, the selected candidate performs a variety of statistical tasks and clerical duties required to prepare payroll data for computer input. Reviews timekeeping records. Processes exception items requiring special handling. Prepares, compiles and maintains various statistical and payroll records. May manually calculates wages and post wage data for temporary work, bonuses, vacations, terminations, and special payroll requirements. Review employee records on company's human resources information system (Workday). May perform analyses and reviews of data, develop reports for supervision review.


Ensures compliance with NG policies and procedures by auditing various payroll reports, prepping and keying pay adjustments for regular and manual payroll runs, and researching and investigating pay errors


Job duties also include but are not limited to:

  • Processing of over 600 weekly timesheets using the KRONOS system.
  • Assists managers and sector points of contact with pay related matters.
  • Coordination of payroll with Corporate
  • Maintenance of Extended Work Week process
  • Timely processing of labor corrections
  • Support of governmental and internal audits
  • Reconciling payroll and general ledger and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Subject Matter Expert for KRONOS timekeeping system
  • Provides information and detailed responses to inquiries regarding payroll-related activities. 


Basic Requirements:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of six (6) years timesheet/payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of KRONOS timekeeping system
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft office suite (excel, word, and PowerPoint)
  • Payroll processing experience including relevant regulatory requirements; internal policy and procedure; accounting practices; system software requirements
  • Must have knowledge of FLSA, federal and California laws, etc.
  • Must be analytical, self-starter and be able to work in a fast moving environment
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Must possess a strong characteristic for attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Problem-solving; organizing and prioritizing work demands in order to meet critical deadlines
  • Perform basic payroll calculations
  • Operating a personal computer including standard software and some specialized accounting software


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with COSTPOINT a plus


While this position MAY allow some teleworking, the selected candidate WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK ON-SITE IN NORTHRIDGE, CA AS REQUIRED.

Salary Range: $53,600 USD - $89,300 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
