National Cultivation Manager

Chicago, IL

The National Cultivation Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s cultivation policies, objective, and initiatives in their assigned region. As a regional leader, they ensure a collaborative and cooperative working relationship within all cultivation departments in the organization to achieve business goals, objectives and uniformity across all cultivation facilities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the management of the cultivation operations from seed-to-harvest in their assigned region.
  • Direct, plan, and/or implement policies, objectives, or activities to ensure continuing operations, to maximize returns on investments, or to increase productivity and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing tactics including Six Sigma to identify, scope and implement processes, technologies, and systems to continuously improve product quality as well as operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Follow an annual operating and financial plan for national cultivation assigned by the National EVP of Cultivation with a focus on costs, margin, EBITA and Cash Flow.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce direct cultivation costs including but not limited to direct and indirect labor, materials, and capital investments by improving workflow, achievement of internal project dates and improving efficiency and effectiveness of the costs of cultivation in facilities, equipment, operations, and yield levels.
  • Partner with the National EVP of Cultivation to establish and utilize KPIs to monitor, adjust, reward, and optimize company cultivation performance.
  • Assist in the implementation of GMP and ISO standards across the cultivation departments in their facilities.
  • Lead the training and development of facility Directors of Cultivation in accordance with company policies to motivate and drive the achievement of business objectives and to build, uphold and support the values of the Company.
  • Work with the Supply Chain Department to reduce cost with bulk purchasing.
  • Prepare and/or present reports concerning activities, expenses, budgets, government statutes or rulings, or other items affecting businesses or program services to company officers.
  • Partner with Human Resources to effectively manage the national workforce.

  • Establish credibility throughout the organization as an effective collaborative developer of solutions to business challenges.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum four (6) years’ experience in a commercial cultivation facility.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in management/leadership roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of cannabis cultivation including organic living soil, permaculture, and horticulture.
  • Must be willing to travel within their region on a regular basis (50%+).
  • Strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment, initiative, attention to detail, drive for change, getting organizational support, building ownership and commitment, making though decisions and developing others.
  • Well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
  • Ability to deliver results timely and in a pressure filled environment.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to successfully register with the state’s cannabis commission as an agent.
  • Must be able to comply with all laws, regulations, and policies associated with the industry.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in plant science, biology, agricultural sciences, or equivalent area of study preferred.

Physical and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position, move and/or position oneself, communicate, operate and/or prepare, place, position objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally move packages weighing up to 10 lb. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close observation and the ability to adjust focus. Working Environment:

Work is performed in a warehouse environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
