Manager Social Media

The Social Media Manager leads a team of Social Media Strategists who work to advance the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This includes maintaining and enhancing the reputation of the extraordinary, groundbreaking research and outstanding patient care at St. Jude through creative and strategic multi-platform social media content about the institution’s mission, thought leadership, programs, initiatives, and priorities.

 

The Social Media Relations Manager develops and implements multi-platform social media content strategies and editorial calendars that ladder up to the messaging and strategies developed by the Senior Director of Media Relations and the Vice President of Strategic Communication, Education and Outreach. The Social Media Manager also monitors and manages the St. Jude brand and image through its digital properties, analyzes engagement data, identifies trends in follower interactions, and plans digital campaigns to build community online.

This individual has superior written and oral communication skills, as well as demonstrates exceptional critical listening and analytical thinking, an ability to juggle multiple projects with competing priorities, and demonstrate strong but compassionate leadership that fosters a culture of growth.

 

The Manager must deftly manage stakeholder expectations while meeting key deliverables. Candidates must be prepared to work some evenings and weekends for occasional events or high need situations.

 

The position reports to the Senior Director of Media Relations.

 

This position is located in Memphis, TN.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee strategic digital media plans, editorial calendars, and content about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital discoveries, programs, and differentiators that appeal to both consumers, scientists, and oncologists. Calendars and campaigns should both grow and maintain followers through the institution’s social media platforms.
  • Lead social media listening.
  • Create and present analytical reports to demonstrate campaign performance and adjust campaign strategies and tactics as appropriate.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of campaigns to ensure brand consistency. Facilitate and scale brand and company awareness through social media channels.
  • Ensure progress on all platforms using appropriate analytical tools.
  • Supervise all aspects of social media interaction between audiences and St. Jude.
  • Track industry, news and social media trends and lead social media strategists in reacting and responding appropriately, as well as identify new opportunities for engagement.
  • Mentor and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports, establish cascading goals for direct reports and evaluate their performance.
  • Work with the Director of Media Relations regarding issues management.
  • Liaise with other members of the Strategic Communication, Education and Outreach department for a variety of projects, whether it’s website redesign, video projects, owned assets, etc.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or other related fields.   


Minimum Experience

  • Seven (7) to 10 years of experience, with progressive responsibility including as a manager, in digital marketing, advertising, or communications, ideally on a nationally recognized brand
  • Thorough understanding of integrating multimedia, social media and online media strategies required.
  • Experience working in a health care or scientific setting is preferred.
  • Candidates must be knowledgeable of AP Style and should be prepared to work some evenings and weekends for occasional events or high need situations.
  • The Social Media Manager fosters a culture of growth by coaching the team on best practices.
