Manager, Retail Pricing Strategy

Byron Center, MI

Role is responsible for leading and overseeing the development, consistent execution, and on-going evaluation of our retail pricing strategies for our corporate retail stores and the zone structure for our independent retail customers. This includes all aspects of strategy development, execution, pricing architecture, standards, and guidelines.


An essential part of this role is maintaining business partnerships with Merchandising leaders to ensure pricing strategies help deliver business objectives. This role has the responsibility of leading and mentoring a team of Pricing Analysts, providing guidance to the team while fostering individual ownership and accountability.

  • Develop pricing strategies for National Brand and OwnBrands products to deliver optimum sales growth and profit while ensuring alignment with overall strategies
  • Model the impact of proposed price strategies in terms of sales, margin, and share
  • Guide and enhance business processes and routines used to manage item pricing
  • Provide solutions to support Merchandising and Pricing initiatives with to protect and/or improve customer price perception, market share, and financial performance
  • Partner with merchandising teams to enhance the integration of pricing analysis into SpartanNash category management analysis processes
  • Enhance and maintain price zone strategies
  • Develop guardrails that will ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Define data, reporting and system enhancements needed to improve SpartanNash’s ability to utilize pricing as a strategic lever for growth
  • Develop & present pricing strategy information to Senior Leadership
  • Communicate pricing trends and insights, articulate impacts to performance and strategic KPIs
  • Responsible for team management including hiring, training, performance management, career development, and setting team and personal goals

 

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Analytics/Data Science, Marketing, Finance, Statistics/Mathematics. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a pricing or analytical role; retail experience beneficial
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • Proficient in a wide range of analytical, quantitative, and statistical techniques and tools to derive insights from large, complex data environments
  • Experience with insights, research and reporting tools
  • Experience with price management applications
  • Excellent communication skills: listening, verbal and written
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Strong work ethic complemented with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to mentor and lead a team of analysts
