Responsibilities

As Manager or Senior Manager on the Environmental Strategies team at Hines, you will be a supporting member of the team, with a focus on analyzing carbon reduction strategies, developing presentation materials, creating sustainability training programs, conducting research, and assisting with data analysis. Your role is expected to contribute significantly to the development, implementation and coordination of the firm’s carbon reduction program.


The Environmental Strategies team has specialists that work in various verticals including Data, Renewable Energy, Net Zero Implementation, Embodied Carbon, and a Core Team that helps to set the overarching direction and coordination for the group. The Manager would join the Core team.

 

Key responsibilities will include supporting the development and implementation of Hines’ decarbonization strategy and commitments across Central and Global regions.


The role will specifically require review of asset-level carbon reduction strategies, development of Powerpoint presentations for team leadership, creation of Scope of Work templates for decarbonization, benchmarking of assets’ utility data, and ad hoc project management to help teams implement their decarbonization plans.

 

Decarbonization implementation through actively managing the following tasks:

  • Be a supporting member of the Environmental Strategies Core Team, within the scope and boundaries established by the Director of
  • Environmental Strategies Core Team, to meet expected firmwide deliverables in a timely manner and deliver impactful outcomes
  • Help develop a repeatable, scalable process to assess, plan and guide regions for execution of asset-level decarbonization projects
  • Analyze whole-building energy data to benchmark assets’ performance
  • Evaluate existing net zero roadmap plans to determine quality and oversights
  • Create and refine presentation materials to be delivered by team leadership
  • Create and refine master scopes of work for design consultants and contractors to execute and provide transparency on decarbonization projects
  • Evaluate operational carbon reduction strategies in all geographies and asset types and start to develop specific solution types
  • Provide support on presentations, proposals, requests for information and recommendations
  • Work with members of Hines’ Learning & Development Team to create training materials for other members of the firm

 

Internal and External Relationships

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Hines teams: Central Operations, Innovation, Business Technology, Corporate Analytics, Central Engineering, Investment Management, Corporate Communications, Human Resources and Compliance among others
  • As directed by leadership of the Environmental Strategies team, oversee consultation and coordination of initiatives with third-party consultants and academic institutions as required


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Energy, Environmental Science, or a closely related field. Master’s degree is valued but not required
  • At least 6 years of experience in carbon reduction initiatives, building science, energy modeling or engineering in commercial, residential, logistics, or consulting in a related field
  • Excellent communication skills to successfully lead projects to completion, knowing how to approach people, create meaningful relationships, and articulate a clearly established vision
  • Proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders in complex business settings and prioritize work as required
  • Flexible mindset and willingness to support evolving program needs as the Environmental Strategies team grows. Openness to helping team leadership in renewable energy, data collection, embodied carbon reduction, operational efficiency, and regulatory review
  • Knowledge of the design of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, multifamily, institutional and light industrial facilities and experience with project delivery
  • Knowledge of carbon accounting protocols including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Science Based Targets Initiative and Carbon Risk Real Estate Monitor
  • Ability to work with data to provide technical insights for communication to non-technical audiences
  • Strong organizational, analytical skills, attention to detail, able to work independently
  • Ability to be a critical thinker, remaining objective, analyze the facts, and evaluating options without bias to solve complex problems
  • Self-starter, rigorous, adaptable, and with good people skills able to work collaboratively with strong self sufficiency

  • Compensation: $107,000 - $169,400
