Manager, Network & Telecommunications

Winnipeg, MB

In your role as Manager – Network & Telecommunications, at The North West Company (NWC), you are responsible to plan, organize and manage staff to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s global core networks, voice services, routers, switches, VPN’s, disaster recovery (network) and PCI compliance for all sites/stores (network). This includes developing, maintaining, supporting and optimizing existing services while ensuring our architectures/roadmaps provide strategic and cost effective strategies for the future.

Your Role:

  • Collaboratively develop, design, and implement short and long-term strategic plans to ensure network and voice capacity meets existing and future requirements.
  • Develop roadmaps for network and voice that ensure current, secure, and cost-effective systems.
  • Participate in the development of IT strategies in collaboration with the IT leadership and executive team.
  • Conduct research, feasibility studies, and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards to support procurement and development efforts.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of network & telecom team, set and achieve clear objectives and provide regular feedback.
  • Ensure appropriate plans and details exist for all projects and changes.
  • Provide technical direction to meet architecture standards and objectives.
  • Communicate regularly with executives, stakeholders, and end-users regarding network & voice activities, participate in audits, and develop policies and training plans for administration and project management.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations of network & voice environments meet reliability, availability, and service requirements as per SLAs.
  • Manage on-call schedule for adequate 365-day support coverage.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and 24/7 alerting for all systems.
  • Address problems, incidents, and tickets within SLAs, conduct reviews to develop strategies to prevent reoccurrence, and practice IT asset management.


Desired Skills & Experience:

  • 10 or more years of experience managing and delivering network design and operational excellence.
  • Exceptional knowledge of service and application delivery, as well as successfully managing service level agreements.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting hardware.
  • Knowledge of current protocols and standards.
  • Application support experience. Retail knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience in interpreting the applicability of local and federal laws/regulations to company operations.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Able to conduct research into issues and products as required.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership and personnel/project management skills.
