Manager - Legal Operations Strategy & Execution

New York, NY

This role in the General Counsel’s Organization Operations Team will act as an internal business consultant with an eye to process improvement. The successful candidate in this role will be curious, analytical, adaptable, solutions-oriented and have a passion for process improvement. 


A critical function of the role will be identifying, implementing and evolving processes and systems to improve the efficiency and quality of the legal department’s services, including the management of vendors like Law Firms. The Legal Organization is evolving how we work with strategic vendors like Law Firms and this role will be critical to transforming which Firms we work with and how we drive more value from these Firms through People, Process & Technology initiatives.  The candidate will also work directly with law firms to drive strategic initiatives and ensure compliance with Amex priorities.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the strategic shift in how GCO works with Law Firms by streamlining the onboarding process, developing relationships with strategic Firms to deliver higher value to the Enterprise, and educating GCO colleagues on Firm Management program. 
  • Assist in evolving the outside counsel / law firm strategy from engagement to driving value add items. Strategize on process improvements in how we work with law firms.
  • Contribute to the management and enhancement of technology systems, including Firm management programs like project management & scorecard evaluation tools. 
  • Manage and support initiatives across the ongoing monitoring program, driving process innovation and transformation.
  • Maintain business level procedural documents to support the implementation of risk assessment and governance frameworks.
  • Provide creative problem-solving abilities; challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement and enhanced stakeholder experience.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels with internal project customers and stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a Strategic mindset.
  • Experience with project management, organization, prioritization, and multitasking required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders across many geographies – ability to influence without authority. Partner management experience strongly desired.
  • High-level of professionalism, handles sensitive & confidential information with appropriate care.
  • Strong team player.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple work streams and ad-hoc tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience compiling information and developing thoughtful material for presentation.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion.
  • Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Enthusiastic and creative individual committed to delivering results.
