Manager, IT Support

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). In Project Kuiper Enterprise Technology, we build the software, services, and infrastructure that enable our program to design and engineer the future of LEO Satellite based broadband services. 


As an IT Support Manager, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the centralized IT Support operations across Kuiper Facilities. In this this role, you will provide leadership to a team that is responsible for central IT Support Operations.


You will build and develop a team of engineers to perform IT Support functions and report key operational metrics to the business. You will work closely with stakeholders across various hardware design, software and business teams to identify and drive innovative solutions that achieve business goals and align with long-term product roadmaps.


You will work alongside other Program Managers, Product Managers, Software Development Managers and Engineers to drive key business initiatives. Our ideal candidate will have a strong Data Center Operations and IT Support background, with demonstrated experience leading highly effective Technical Operations teams supporting critical infrastructure.


Key job responsibilities

  • In this new role you will build and lead a centralized team of IT Support Engineers across multiple locations.
  • Assist & manage relationships with external vendors & contractors.
  • Accountable for meeting and exceeding operational goals.
  • Responsible for strategic planning and forecasting; performance appraisal; problems resolution; and staffing needs. 
  • Obsess over team learning and development, both from a technical/functional and soft skills (critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability) development perspective including mentoring and training.
  • Develop, improve, and share operational best practices across the globe.
  • Hire, manage, and develop the central operations team
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
  • Assist in implementing service methodologies that include incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management. and inventory management.
  • Write strong documents for proposing new business processes and metrics reporting.
  • Communicate technical information across all levels of the organization

To enable production, the Kuiper Builder Enablement and Engagement organization provides infrastructure, IT and builder support to all Kuiper engineering and service teams. As individual teams we provide subject matter expertise that enables Kuiper Engineers to design and build best in class, from LRU rack design and provisioning to PCBA release, we traverse the full suite of services. As an organization, we are the schema connecting Kuiper Engineering teams to production.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years of professional or military experience
  • 5+ years of developing a team of technical professionals across multiple locations experience
  • 4+ years of leading technology teams as a information technology operations manager experience
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of change concepts, problem and incident management
  • Financial acumen in annual budgeting, Capex and Opex


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience in safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
  • 4+ years of experience with mission critical infrastructure support.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
