Manager, Human Resources

The Manager, Human Resources is a key position within Canopy. This position will report directly to the Director, Human Resources and is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of corporate human resource functions including employee relations, policy and program development and implementation, training and development, and performance management for the assigned Innovation, Insights & Product organizations.  Our ideal candidate is professional, business focused, calm under pressure, a multi-tasker, sees all sides of the situation and is comfortable asking the right questions to help support the business needs. Responsibilities 

  • Provides Human Resources consultation and coaching to assigned client departments on a full range of HR functions including employee relations, recruitment & retention, succession planning, salary planning, performance management, corrective action, discipline and conflict resolution, facilitating change and transition 
  • Coaches and develops HR Business Partner and HR Coordinator on team and acts as their escalation point as required 
  • Guides and facilitates change in organizational culture and/or values consistent with business strategies. Effective change agent that ensures positive employee experience during all transformational initiatives 
  • Provide day-to-day support to Executives, Managers and Employees within the assigned client-group(s) on all HR related matters 
  • Maintain knowledge of progressive HR practices and trends to drive departmental initiatives 
  • Monitors Employment Legislative initiatives, anticipates the effects of impending legislation on the organization, and develops action plans for timely compliance. Ensures proper compliance with all employment-related laws and regulations. Acts as US subject matter expert in relation to these items.  
  • Coach business leaders on leadership behaviors and practices, employee communications, development and performance management strategies and tactics to promote engagement and a culture of continuous growth and development 
  • Identify, gather and provide requirements to help with the development of HR policies, programs and initiatives and participate in implementation 
  • Provides leadership and direction to HR Business Partners, including hiring, performance management, coaching, development and management of all other employee related issues 
  • Coordinate the tri-annual performance review process within the assigned client group(s) and ensure alignment with corporate initiatives. 
  • Collaborate to ensure recruitment needs are met within assigned business unit 
  • Manages employee relations issues and conducts and/or oversees investigations as required 
  • Working closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention. 
  • Leading Human Resources projects assigned by Director, HR 
  • Manage multiple priorities in an energetic, fast-paced environment 
  • Working closely with employees in assigned client groups across Canada and the United States   
  • Other duties as assigned 


Experience and Background 

  • Extensive knowledge of HR legislation and best practices in United States 
  • 5-10 years of experience in Human Resources 
  • Experience in people management a plus  
  • Strong experience in managing Employee Relations 
  • Proficiency in MS office, including: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio 
  • Self starter and results oriented 
  • Thrives in a fast paced, ever changing environment  
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with employees and management 
  • Ability to handle situations professionally with sensitivity, diplomacy and tact 
  • Must be a team player with strong leadership skills 
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce an asset 


Other Details  

This is a Full-Time role based out of Denver, Colorado or Chicago, Illinois. This role will report directly to the Director, Human Resources located in Chicago, IL. The successful candidate will work closely with an HR Coordinator, who also reports directly into the Director, HR. Two HR Business Partners will report directly into the successful candidate for Manager, HR.

Pay: $95,400 - $110,000 USD
