Manager, Environmental Health & Safety

San Francisco, CA

Reporting into the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, you will build the strategy, development and implementation of CreateMe’s Health and Safety programs company-wide . As such, you will partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Finance, Hardware, Operations, Real Estate, Corporate Affairs, People Team and Legal to ensure worker safety, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company manufacturing standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive strategy and implement a proactive culture of EHS&S 
  • Lead the organization in the implementation of tools, programs and initiatives that ensure the realization of this strategy and objective
  • Develop relationships with leadership and management to ensure EHS&S policies and procedures are being applied and followed 
  • Working with site management, share best practices across the organization
  • Guide and steward strategy, implementation, and management of corporate and asset level ESG strategies that build upon EHS&S; lead the identification and implementation of sustainability programs that impact our people and business such as decarbonization, and waste diversion.
  • Support monitoring and progress of other key governance and social initiatives
  • Advise and support site management/operational staff on all EHS&S activities, communicating initiatives, and establishing/updating and disseminating documentation relating to the EHS management system 
  • Champion initiatives, focusing on preventive actions, that identify and communicate facility risk exposure, prioritizing risk reduction needs and ensuring closure of recommendations to reduce risk 
  • Working with operational staff, identify areas of improvement, lead development of local improvement initiatives, and establish EHS&S action plans to achieve set objectives and targets
  • Develop and implement strategic goals supporting corporate and local EHS&S objectives 
  • Lead investigation of safety related accidents or incidents (including near misses) to identify root cause(s) and implementation of effective corrective/preventive actions
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, including federal and state-level OSHA and DOH regulations
  • Maintain all environmental, safety and health permits, documents and records per requirements
  • Plan and ensure delivery of training programs for regulatory mandated requirements as well as site specific EHS&S training 
  • Ensure site leadership and personnel are trained and knowledgeable of their responsibilities under each policy
  • Audit the effectiveness, quality, and delivery of all required safety training 
  • Ensure routine audits are conducted of facilities and processes to assess and identify safety, health, and environmental risks 
  • Ensure regular risk assessments are conducted on all processes and equipment and recommend appropriate controls when hazards or potential hazards are identified 
  • Prepare presentations and conduct training supporting monthly EHS &S Communications
  • Compile and publish monthly, quarterly and annual reports on site health and safety performance, EHS issues, regulatory compliance and personnel training 
  • Ensure that Safety Data Sheets are maintained and readily accessible at all locations 
  • Manage all EHS&S documents (protocols, manuals, work instructions, Safety Committee Meeting Minutes, etc.) to ensure they are maintained within proper CreateMe repository for access and training.
  • Develop a framework and execute on the reporting of key EHS&S metrics
  • Develop and deploy EHS communications using existing media display tools to enhance EHS program effectiveness
  • Act as liaison with Facility Operations, Advanced Manufacturing, and R&D departments to facilitate design and implementation of site projects with EHS&S impacts.
  • Assist in tracking and coordination of EHS&S permit renewals, regulatory deadlines, training requirements and other internal compliance timelines.
  • Own the administration of contractor safety programs and associated SAFE work permits, job hazard analytics, and any required documentation.
  • Oversee the review, development, and maintenance of EHS manuals, work practices, SharePoint site and other resources


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or environmental sciences related field, chemistry, biology, or closely related scientific field with 5-7 years of industry experience.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental, health, safety and security inspections and reporting
  • Expert knowledge of occupational hazards and management.
  • Technical working knowledge of current OSHA, and other related governmental regulations.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of current applicable federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations and procedures that apply to the apparel and electronic industries.
  • Ability to develop proactive programs effectively, resolve issues, and make recommendations to enhance existing programs.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with colleagues regarding EHS&S protocols.
  • EHS training and/ or certifications such as Certified Safety Professional(CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist( CIH), Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM).
  • Experience using EHS&S management platform software for incident reporting, inspections, and self-assessments.
