Manager, EHS

Remote (United States) North Chicago, IL

Remote position in the United States or Puerto Rico only


Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS projects and programs to ensure regulatory and internal compliance, reduce risk, and minimize AbbVie’s liability for office, commercial, fleet, lab, warehouse, and affiliate organizations. Actively participate in analyzing problems of the different situations presented by collecting inputs from various sources and promote discussion with organization staff to reach agreement on appropriate priorities establishment for capital expenditure, maintenance programs, and/or new systems for the Safety, Health, sustainability, and Environmental issues. Conduct risk assessments for the implementation of new systems and the improvement of current EHS programs to ensure compliance with our operations in a proactive manner. This position is responsible for the safety of employees and assuring a safe working environment, including driver safety, lab safety, and warehouse safety. It supports commercial ops in the Americas (US, Canada & LATAM).


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for protecting the environment, company assets, maintaining regulatory compliance, maintaining EHS programs with external entities such as government, and EHS support to all departments within the company.
  • The position is accountable for identifying projects which involve in terms of performance objectives, and to further develop such projects into proposed programs which will meet legislative, global policy and performance requirements. The incumbent is expected to determine the adequacy of existing activities and facilities in terms of acceptable risk. The incumbent is also responsible for providing technical experience.
  • Is responsible for the reliable and adequate operations of Safety equipment, Engineering Control and Safety Operations. The incumbent has the authority to stop any operation that will put in danger the life of employees or that could affect the property or equipment.
  • Lead programs in support of fleet and commercial safety independently. Utilize multiple 3rd party systems to perform investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions. Track and trend EHS&S metrics and develop solutions and strategies that drive continuous improvement at the regional, local, and enterprise level, including driver fleet safety.
  • Plan and implement projects for client organizations and track to successful completion. Lead lab and warehouse safety where applicable to comply with all company and state regulations. Communicate compliance status, key performance indicators, trends, data, metrics, and priority issues and business impact to key stakeholders.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to represent EHS objectives and meet the team’s overall objectives and deliverables. Ability to interact and communicate with multiple levels in the organization and external regulators or auditors.
  • Ability to independently access and learn systems and applications. Able to develop spread sheets and manipulate data.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Industrial Safety, or related/equivalent.
  • At least five (5 to 10) years of combined experience managing environmental, health, safety, and sustainability, project management, and systems administration programs to assure compliance with government regulations and company policies.
  • Work experience in implementing EHS regulations, developing programs, conducting incident investigations, EHS metrics, interacting with regulatory agencies and external organizations, and managing cross-functional teams
  • Ability to establish measurable project goals and implementation plans, balance conflicting work demands, and develop action plans, including the identification of resource requirements. Ability to develop standards and /or policies that meet business objectives. Ability to manage complex data sets and produce usable outputs. Ability to manage responsibilities over a large geographic region
  • Physical: Walking, sitting, and standing. Ability to work with computers, databases, and integration of information tracking systems. Fluent in English, both oral and written
  • General knowledge of Quality regulations and standards affecting chemical, biological, and medical devices (i.e., Quality Systems and FDA regulations) is desirable. The position requires knowledge of local, state, and OSHA and EPA regulations. A general understanding of industry safety and health standards (NIOSH, ANSI) is required. Understanding of fleet vehicle and/or transportation safety is preferred. Demonstrated data management skills preferred.
  • Problem-Solving: Describe the complexity of analytical or innovative thought required to perform this role, particularly emphasizing the most challenging aspects of the role or unique environmental factors (include specific examples).
  • Business Environment: Work conditions, frequency. Work is mostly performed in an office environment. Flexible schedules at different shifts and extended work hours may also be required when performing EHS evaluations and training.
  • Requiere: 25% travel required across North and South America (Canada, USA, and LATAM).

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
