Manager, Content Design

Novi, MI

We’re seeking an experienced and results-driven Content Design Manager to manage and lead a team of content designers. The Content Design Manager is a working manager who will additionally develop and implement successful content management processes, outline how the content management team will create deliverables, and guide content development and management by the team for projects. The Content Design Manager will also be a practitioner who will create, edit and manage content as needed for select projects.


The Content Design Manager will bring a mix of strong management experience, technical writing experience, editing skills, content management process knowledge, design-thinking sensibility, and innovative product insights to the role. They will balance a user-centric perspective with the ability to move forward in a fast-paced environment. The Content Design Manager will work closely with design, engineering, product management and partner content management stakeholders to foster cross-functional and cross product content collaboration. Location:  Novi, MI or Remote.


Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for the development and management of clear, concise user interface text, in-tool messaging, conversational AI, training materials, service support documentation, and other technical documentation that delivers or enhances the employee experience 
  • Manage, coach, and grow a team responsible for content creation, review, and management to deliver a connected experience across web, mobile, chat and search platforms
  • Collect requirements, prioritize work, and ensure commitments are delivered on time and in-scope
  • Mix hands-on content design skills with leadership, working across functions, leading by example, and advocating for great content design as a driver of business success
  • Help the team balance tactical and strategic priorities, ensuring that content guidelines and processes are consistently used to maximum impact in the development of experiences
  • Accountable for the quality, consistency, and delivery of the content design team
  • Continue to mature and develop content design processes, and drive for a cohesive employee experience
  • Review, assess, and create content to develop a comprehensive and up to date library of content delivering the employee experience and set metrics to measure its health
  • Identify team needs with regards to process, tools, documentation, etc., and implement or drive required changes
  • Help guide the content design team to develop appropriate frameworks
  • Provide individual career growth and development for all members of the team
  • Scope and execute programs, allocate projects appropriately to team members, foster team collaboration, remove barriers before they arise
  • Lead and develop content designers of varying experience levels and skillsets
  • Be an advocate for content design and its business value to product developers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to orchestrate the right teams and deliver solutions
  • Manage incoming content design requests and assign projects appropriately
  • Improve processes and daily operations to drive increases in efficiency
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate use of voice, and tone throughout all content
  • Participate as a content designer on key projects
  • Accountable for state of employee experience content library


Minimum Qualifications

  • A track record of leading content design teams through successful content implementations for products
  • Comprehensive understanding of the full spectrum of content lifecycle and skills across all phases, including discovery, creation, review, verification, maintenance, and archiving
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering content into web, mobile and chat agents
  • Can consistently demonstrate an insightful understanding of customer needs, the competitive landscape, emerging technology, and market trends and set an example of delivering high-value work for employees
  • 7+ years' experience in content design for user experience/product design projects, across web and mobile platforms in a fast-paced and cross functional design environment, preferably with 3+ years' experience working in, or with, tech companies
  • 3+ years managing content design teams in the development and successful shipment of high-quality products
  • Understanding of modern software development process and a clear sense how content design teams fit in
  • Familiarity with content management systems for web, mobile, chat and search
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience working across multiple product areas and uniting stakeholders
  • Experience with the creation of content design systems and componentization and reuse of content
  • Strong communication, storytelling, and presentation with confidence
  • Clear and precise writing and communication skills
  • Embrace and encourage diverse perspectives to inspire product thinking
  • Maintains a growth mindset of continuous improvement
  • Consistent track record of coaching talented content designers to achieve their best performance

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $110,200 and $178,200. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
