Internal Communications Specialist

The Polyethylene business is one of the key growth platforms for Royal Dutch Shell and Shell Chemicals.  Our first manufacturing site will produce over 3.5 billion pounds per annum with a slate of ~40 products which will be sold to a diverse set of customers.


Purpose and Accountabilities:

The Internal Communications Specialist will play a key role in developing and transforming our culture to deliver an unrivaled customer experience. This role will sit within the Brand/Customer Experience (CX) team and work closely with the Leadership Teams as well as with many other sub-teams within the Shell Polymers business.


The ideal candidate is one who understands the customer experience landscape and is a self-starter who can pick up quickly on our end-to-end approach to customer experience. The candidate will own and develop the communications strategy, execute/implement, and drive synergies between the Brand marcomm strategy and internal communications strategy. The candidate should be able to translate background knowledge, as well as information gathered from different sources to craft communications that clearly convey the strategy, demonstrate thought leadership and drive excitement internally and externally. Collaboration, organization, proactive/forward thinking, and strong delivery will be keys to success.


Primary accountabilities include:

Customer-Centric Culture:

  • Set and evolve employee experience strategy and manage related communications, initiatives, engagements
  • Establish and execute feedback mechanisms to measure culture and pulse of the organization.
  • Leverage customer/employee experience and customer-centricity advancements across downstream teams and externally


Communications Strategy:

  • Ownership of the internal communications strategy, plan, and execution
  • Drive connectivity of Brand marketing communications strategy to internal communications
  • Business partnership - Advises business partners/functions on messaging and communications planning


Content Creation and Management:

  • Collaborates closely with Brand team to repurpose/fit existing marketing communications content for internal purposes
  • Actively contributes to editorial planning & execution and supports cascading of relevant business information, including researching and writing articles, planning meetings, and developing presentations
  • Identifies the proper channels to reach target audiences
  • Should have experience working on an entire life cycle of an assignment, from planning through content creation and distribution to target audiences
  • Organize, store and share assets


Channel Management:

  • Manages the department’s key internal channels, including newsletters, intranet and virtual event production
  • Develops and executes plans for continuous improvement of communications channels
  • Coordinates with enterprise communication partners to create a two-way flow of information
  • Uses data to improve the employee experience and organizational communications; makes recommendations on improvement opportunities.


Skills & Requirements

What we need from you –

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required with minimum of 7 years proven experience in communications
  • Stakeholder management and ability to effectively work across functions, organizations, and many levels of the organization 
  • Ability to lead and influence without formal authority
  • Ability to link objectives and expectations of multiple stakeholders, to identify opportunities
  • Highly organized with excellent follow-through
  • Intuitive / empathic relationship builder, who puts listening & understanding first
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and propose innovative communications solutions
  • Strategy development and execution
  • Graphic design/visual communications
  • Creativity, flexibility and professionalism are vital for a role that involves simplifying complexity for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to convert technical concepts into customer value stories and create and deliver Executive-level presentations
  • Experience with Asana and MS Teams preferred; Adobe photoshop, in design premier, Salesforce Marketing cloud also helpful
