Internal Audit & Ethics Manager

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. The Internal Audit & Ethics Manager reports to the Washington River Protection Solutions President / Project Manager, WRPS LLC Board Chair and the WRPS Risk and Audit Committee (RFAC) Chair.


As an integral member of the WRPS Executive Team, the Internal Audit & Ethics Manager will lead a team and administer an internal audit program of objective and independent financial and operational audits and the operation of the Ethics and Compliance Office, which implements an integrated investigation strategy, with Human Resources (HR), Legal, Safeguards and Security, and the Employee Concerns Program (ECP).


Responsibilities of the Internal Audit & Ethics Manager include:

  • Develop and implement a risk based audit plan for WRPS with appropriate assessment and prioritization of internal control risks and focus on opportunities for operational efficiency, and incorporate in an Annual Audit Plan submittal to the Department of Energy.
  • Ensure the audit process, work papers, and audit reports are in compliance within the Standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Government Auditing Standards, and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards as well as meet the requirements of DOE in accordance with Section 170.h of the prime contract
  • Strengthen the WRPS internal control environment and ensure compliance with the prime contract, federal regulations/DOE/DOD Orders and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adequacy of testing and associated work paper documentation, soundness of recommendations and reasonableness/responsiveness of the auditee corrective actions
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Legal Office, Employee Concerns Program and Safeguards and Security organizations to provide confidential and professional investigative analysis and reporting on allegations pertaining to ethical violations
  • Conduct effective interfaces with the DOE Customer, the Inspector General's Office (IG), the General Accounting Office (GAO) and other external audit agencies, as appropriate.
  • Provide required reporting to the WRPS Board and the RFAC.
  • Establish mechanisms for employees to report suspected misconduct or violations of Company Ethics & Compliance-related policies and procedures and obtain guidance on Ethics & Compliance issues, including an anonymous reporting mechanism.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related discipline; with
  • Minimum ten (10) years related experience in public accounting and/or corporate internal audit experience to include experience managing or leading audit teams.
  • Demonstrated oversight/assurance experience with Government contracts/contractors either internally or externally.
  • Project management experience for meeting quality, cost and schedule commitments in a dynamic work environment.
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with and/or exposure to Inspector General (IG), Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) or other closely related oversight Functions.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Audit (CIA) or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) desired
  • Experience in auditing functions in a DOD and/or DOE environment, with Hanford Site experience preferred.
