Intern - Government Affairs (Summer 2023)

At United, we take bold action. And our Government, Corporate and Environmental Affairs team are the driving force behind our efforts to make change happen! By working closely with the US government and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Corporate and Government Affairs team represents United on public policy and legislative issues. And our Environmental Affairs team is equally working hard to shape an environmentally sustainable future. Together these teams advocate for a cleaner, safer, and more optimistic future for our airline, our employees, and the millions of customers we serve all around the globe.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Government Affairs and other policy professionals
  • Monitoring press and Capitol Hill and Executive branch publications for a variety of topics and issues of interest to clients
  • Assisting with projects, including conducting research, crafting charts and presentations
  • Compiling briefing books, relating to a broad range of issues
  • Draft correspondence, talking points and background materials for use by the government relations team and executives with government officials and agencies
  • Assist with the preparation of leadership visits to Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Shown proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to handle simultaneous projects and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Solid research skills
  • Intern duration is Summer 2023
  • Position is located in Chicago, IL
  • There may be flexibility with remote summer work based on environmental conditions
  • Applicant must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship or future sponsorship for a full/part time position
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
