Industrial Cleaning Technician

Fremont, CA

Tesla is seeking a dynamic Environmental Technician to join the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Team. The Environmental Technician will report directly to the Hazardous Waste Operations Supervisor. Under the general direction of the Hazardous Waste Operations Supervisor, the Environmental Technician is responsible for performing a variety of housekeeping tasks, including but is not limited to, pressure washing, cleaning, hazardous waste management, conducting routine inspections, and being a part of the hazardous materials emergency response team. The ideal candidate also takes pride in his or her analytical abilities, organization skills and attention to detail. He or she appreciates a setting where superior work is encouraged, recognized, and rewarded. This position is based out of Fremont, CA and may perform work at multiple facilities or production shops.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Reading comprehension skills: Must have excellent reading comprehension skills in order to understand work-related documents
  • Critical thinking skills: These will allow you to weigh possible solutions to problems
  • Communication skills: You'll be working as a member of a team, so possessing strong listening, speaking, writing skills, and interpersonal skills is critical. You must convey information factually and clearly to the engineer or team leader when you can't resolve issues yourself
  • Observational skills: You must be able to recognize and identify potential problems without delay


Responsibilities:

  • Perform sweeping and vacuuming tasks, as needed throughout multiple Process Areas & Gowning Rooms
  • Collaborate with Lab/Area Stakeholders and establish good working relationships
  • Conduct proper waste management in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Ensure proper packaging of hazardous waste to maintain compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Transfer hazardous waste containers from production areas to Central Accumulation Area via mobile equipment, and support the housekeeping of Shop and Main Central Accumulation Areas
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Perform best management practices (BMPs) to promote stormwater pollution prevention (SWPP); including, but not limited to cleaning storm drains and maintaining stormwater filtration devices
  • Respond to hazardous material spills for cleanup as part of the emergency response team
  • Report and document site inspections through our Tesla Inspection Tools
  • Conduct line side audits alongside our stakeholders and EHS representatives
  • Manage and track spill kits in the area
  • Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of all personal gear and industrial cleaning equipment
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, or cleaning materials for day-to-day operations
  • Perform quality work with all housekeeping and cleaning needs, as assigned and directed by Supervisor or EHS representatives


Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in high tech industry or manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of industrial cleaning experience and/or environmental services or similar
  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification, or ability to obtain
  • RCRA Certification, or ability to obtain
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure and under a fast-paced working environment
  • Forklift and Electric Pallet Jack Certification or ability to obtain
  • Valid California driver license required
  • Excellent attention to detail, and organization and communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance regulations preferred
  • Ability to perform housekeeping activities in inclement weather conditions, while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, a full-face respirator, hazmat/Tyvek suit, and full PAPR
  • Ability to operate equipment, including shop vacuums, pumps, forklifts, or other mobile equipment
  • Passion for results and completion of goals and priorities is a plus
  • Ability to cope with constant change and housekeeping needs; ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks is a plus
  • Self-motivation to excel in role and passion for continuous learning is a plus
