Health & Safety Coordinator

Delta, BC

As our Health and Safety coordinator, you will be responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH) guidelines. Your main goal will be to always ensure a safe working environment, and the prevention of any injuries and accidents. You will work to create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization, and implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure the company is in compliance with all federal and internal health and safety rules. You will also review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to health and safety. Working as part of a Safety and Wellness team, you may also work closely with construction, manufacturing, cultivation, engineering, and maintenance teams, as well as support staff in order to accomplish their goals. 


Essential Functions

  • Identifying health & safety risks and hazards in the workplace and implementing prevention programs.
  • Advising site leaders and employees on how to minimize risks and hazards in the workplace and improve health & safety performance.
  • Assisting the site in complying with applicable health & safety requirements.
  • Training site employees on health & safety requirements and the HS management system.
  • Assisting sites with implementing HS programs, policies & standards, and H&S management system.
  • Training line managers to recognize hazards and risks and leading the line organization in identifying and controlling hazards and risks.
  • Conducting environmental, health & safety inspections in the workplace.
  • Managing emergency procedures (such as fire alarm drills).
  • Offering general environmental, health & safety advice to all employees.
  • Reporting injuries, illnesses and near misses to the health & safety department and business leaders.
  • Establishing site specific H&S reports and communicating performance with the site leadership.
  • Maintaining accurate H&S records applicable for the site, e.g. WCB injury & illness logs, environmental permits and testing, training documentation, equipment inspection records, etc.
  • Tracking health & safety inspection and audit findings to closure.
  • Assisting the plant manager with establishing and maintaining a site environmental, health & safety council.
  • Sharing health & safety lessons learned and encourage a learning culture on health & safety.
  • Partnering closely with all site leaders to create, maintain and improve our safety environment.


Other Duties

  • We work in a fast-paced environment, rolling up our sleeves to build something bigger than ourselves. Other duties may arise from time to time/most of the time and as a team, we look to support each other. 


Your Brand, Your Story

  • Occupational Health & Safety Certificate
  • CSO or CRSP designation
  • 1-2 years of health & safety experience in Construction sites or manufacturing organizations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, training and facilitation, project management skills are essential (word, power point, excel, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Process safety management experience desired.
  • Exemplary customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze safety & health data.
  • Proficiency in LEAN and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles is an asset.
  • Must have the ability to maintain and pass an RCMP criminal record check and obtain security clearance.
