We are looking for a creative and high energy attorney interested in working at the nexus of law, business, technology, data, and advertising. We are hiring a Head of Legal for Arity, a data and analytics company. This role will act as general counsel to provide broad counseling for Arity in areas related to privacy, product development, adtech, marketing, data management and governance, and commercial contracting.
This attorney will serve on the executive team of Arity’s business as a key strategic advisor and be recognized internally as a subject matter expert and have advanced business acumen.
This role will be accountable for running the legal team for Arity and collaborating closely with privacy, compliance, and risk and will be a critical leader within Arity and Allstate’s broader legal department.
Core competencies:
- Real time and critical business-focused commercial legal advice for a broad range of issues, including advising on product, marketing, and sales
- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, including technology, data, and service contracts
- Advise business partners on emerging business issues, legal subjects and risk management primarily in areas of product development, commercial contracts, regulatory, privacy, and consumer protection
- Executive presence, strategic thinking, and concise verbal and written communication a must
- Play a key role in executing strategy, action planning, and communication with business partners, business units, and other areas of Law & Regulation
- Anticipate legal concerns and provide creative problem solving in a dynamic business environment
- Complex research as to applicability of pertinent laws, statutes, regulations, rules, and other legal authority; ability to summarize concisely and collaborate with other areas of company to determine impact of new legal authority on business and enable action plans
- Understand interaction in regulated environments between business, policy, compliance, legislative and legal frameworks
- Comfort with executing on goals and objectives through ambiguity and in a changing business and legal landscape
- Execution abilities within a parent company and its family of companies
- Ability to manage outside counsel and budgets
- Adtech/advertising expertise, including the legal and ethical considerations for collecting and using data in various advertising environments
- Prefer experience in the following areas: technology, commercial, advertising/adtech, data, privacy, mobility, telematics, TCPA, intellectual property, and/or highly regulated sectors
- Business acumen with ability to quantify return on investments (create and contribute to business cases and risk evaluations)
- Assist in building a culture of constructive debate and conversations with a virtual team across multiple locations
A typical day might include:
- Advising business partners on a new product or a new corporate structure
- Coordinating, understanding, and synthesizing complex legal advice to advise business partners in a simple, direct manner
- Drafting a complex data licensing arrangement or commercial deals
- Driving implementation of a compliance plan

Education and Experience
- J.D is required
- 10 + years legal experience in a law firm or an in-house legal department for a mid- to large-sized company typical
- Experience in the following areas: privacy, technology, international, advertising or adtech, intellectual property, strategy, data, and/or highly regulated sectors
- Experience operating within a parent company and its family of companies
- Preference for experience advising a commercial business unit and/or business and work experience outside legal context

Compensation
Compensation offered for this role is $143,200 – 227,050 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
