Head of Internal Communications

We, too, are growing quickly around the world. Keeping Stripes everywhere informed, engaged, and connected demands a lot of thoughtfulness, empathy, and willingness to research and experiment. We’re looking for an experienced leader to help us continue scaling internal communications across Stripe. From channel operations and exec comms to internal editorial and reputation management, you will help the company communicate more effectively at scale, without losing sight of what makes Stripe uniquely Stripe. 

What you’ll do

This leader will report directly to our global Head of Communications and work in conjunction with our Brand, Corporate, International, and Product Comms leads, as well as our partners in Employee Comms and Field Comms, to ensure we’re telling a consistent story across all of our audiences. 

The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, people oriented, and culturally attuned. They can modulate easily between highly structured work and unbridled creativity, and between high-level strategizing and detail-oriented execution. They can create systems and processes that can make all Stripes more efficient without getting in the way of a good idea or innovative experiment. They are confident and comfortable working closely with founders and senior executives.


  • Oversee and develop our internal communications capabilities, setting overarching strategy with and offering guidance to senior leadership, and crafting compelling content to support consistent narratives for all audiences
  • Work alongside external comms counterparts and other embedded communications functions, including Employee Communications and Field Communications, to scale and make more effective our company-wide communications
  • Create memorable and meaningful moments for Stripes—including our annual company event, quarterly all-hands meetings, and weekly fireside chats—that help foster a sense of connection and enrich Stripes’ employee experience 
  • Develop innovative ways of communicating with and engaging Stripes across a range of formats
  • Grow and develop our talented Internal Comms team, and scale internal comms systems and processes alongside a rapidly expanding Stripe

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience in developing effective communications strategies, preferably in a high-growth environment alongside senior executives 
  • 5+ years leading, managing, and scaling high-performing communications teams. When the situation calls for it, however, you can also roll up your sleeves and execute 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and impeccable people skills. You balance rigor with empathy (and levity!), producing excellent results because you’re in it for the good of those around you 
  • An innovative approach to internal communications. You tend to think expansively about what’s possible and how we can best achieve objectives, and you have an instinctive aversion to things that are hackneyed, on the nose, or “corporate”-sounding 
  • A propensity for working from first principles, converting challenges into opportunities, seeing what’s on the horizon, and considering the effects of change within a complex system 
  • A strategic mindset, coupled with the ability to sweat the details; you should be comfortable working in both unbound creative spaces and more structured spaces
  • A willingness to work across different time zones to ensure smooth communication between Stripes around the globe
