Head of Communications

Justin, TX

This position is a great opportunity to shape a young, innovative company’s communications organization while building your executive skillset in a fast-growing industry. As Head of Communications, you are responsible for all aspects of the communications organization including development of strategy for both external and internal communications, implementation of the program, and continuous improvement to help achieve corporate business objectives.


This position will require some travel for meetings and events, and you will work out of Canoo's Justin Office.


At Canoo, our team members volunteer for their specific missions with clear output-driven deliverables based on what we call “80s” (primary responsibilities) and “20s” (secondary and tertiary responsibilities).


Responsibilities

The 80s:

  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy including but not limited to – media & public relations, social media, internal, customer communications and marketing, and international communications.
  • Operationalize strategies; Develop KPIs, track analytics and create reports for both external and internal communications. Continuously eliminate waste and improve operational efficiencies via data-driven approaches.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership/SMEs on thought leadership and build corporate reputation and organizational identity.
  • Develop and maintain media relationships; Respond to external requests for information and oversee the development of press/information kits, new releases, news materials, and fact sheets on organizational programs and initiatives.
  • Conceive, develop, and implement copy/content for a variety of mediums and formats including web, print, digital/social media, blogs, newsletters, press releases, investor relations, executive speeches, etc.
  • Establish and align brand standards. Implement policies to enhance communications efficiency and effectiveness across the organization.


The 20s:

  • Organize news conferences, product launches, and interviews, and create materials for events.
  • Assist with social media editorial calendars and plan, create, and publish creative content across all social properties.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors whose products or services will be needed for the product.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred
  • A minimum of eight years of professional experience in integrated communication, PR, and/or marketing communication with progressive growth across career
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing external communications, media relations, and marketing programs to advance an organization's mission, vision, values, and goals
  • Advanced and proven ability and experience in writing social media and marketing content
  • Ability to coach and mentor high-performing teams
  • Well-versed in publishing software, graphical and video editing software
  • Strong research skills
  • Appetite for fast-paced environment and unpredictable travel schedule


Travel Requirements: 

  • 25% as required by business needs


Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, employees may be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, occasionally bending or stooping, lifting up to 10 pounds, and prolonged periods of computer use.
