Head of Commercial & Innovation

A unique opportunity to develop and lead the commercial strategy and team for a technology-centered new business venture in environmental intelligence that evolves from a proven intelligence team. By leveraging satellite technologies and proprietary analytics, we create innovative product and platform solutions that transform industries through the use of direct measurement to create unimpeachable environmental intelligence. This critical role will lead commercialization of this new business venture, translating strategic thinking into execution plans with responsibility for revenue, growth, and cultivating successful long term relationships with our industry-leading customers. We are building new markets and disrupting established industries, requiring a leader with exceptionally strong vision to drive a customer-centric and technologically-advanced culture for the company. 


Essential Responsible Areas:

  • Responsible for identifying and securing new business through external channel partners and direct sales paths for current intelligence capabilities and new business venture.
  • Builds go-to-market solution roadmap, interacting with other teams as necessary to support and manage overall coordination and delivery of value proposition/solution to customers 
  • Frames and owns execution of commercial strategy across functions – from launch to scale
  • Builds and leads a global business development team and cultivates a high-performing and agile team culture
  • Works closely with discipline leads (e.g. product, engineering, design) to guide overall solution development
  • Drives product director/managers to relentless focus toward deep understanding of the customer needs and market dynamics
  • Executes partnerships through team of commercial leads into the solution ecosystem
  • Works closely with chief technologist to ensures alignment with broader Ball Aerospace hardware initiatives and missions 
  • Serve as an external spokesperson and internal expert for how our technologies support global customer needs
  • Understands how data is used to add value to organizations and uses that knowledge to shape customer engagement models.


Position Requirement & Competencies:

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired college graduate degree level education or work-related experience
  • Job related experience for 10 year(s) minimum
  • Leadership experience with commercial models based on advanced technologies and novel data types including ML/AI and geospatial or other complex data 
  • Worked in a fast-moving venture or startup model in the commercial sector
  • Relentlessness in breaking down barriers to achieve goals
  • Built up and led multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience and passion for climate & sustainability topics and technologies
  • Balance of creative and analytical mind focused on art of the possible
  • Experience as commercial leader in a zero to one setting; deep collaboration with product development, engineering, GTM, sales/channel development, to achieve launch objectives
  • Direct revenue ownership experience and history of success
  • Experience with applying data analytics to real world problems in a business development context
  • 30% Travel


Compensation & Benefits

  • Hiring Salary Range: $138,300-$235,300 (Salary to be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)
