Global Media Relations Manager

Montréal, QC

This position has the global responsibility to promote and raise CGI’s profile, safeguard its reputation, and drive market awareness primarily by positioning CGI in top tier and trade publications through proactive media outreach. As part of the Global Media Center of Excellence, reporting to Head of Global Media Relations, the Global Media Senior Consultant also supports in developing integrated media strategies and campaigns, defining and evolving CGI’s global media standards, and ensuring consistency of external messages across media activities


Your future duties and responsibilities:

Global media activities

  • Promote CGI’s brand and expertise by effectively and proactively positioning us in the media
  • Develop and manage relationships with general media and industry / technology trade press to gain media coverage
  • Pitch and secure interviews for CGI’s subject matter experts and executives
  • Closely monitor media stories and trends, identify risks and opportunities, and help formulate pro-active strategies on how to respond to media opportunities quickly and effectively
  • Ensure designated spokespersons and executives are properly briefed and trained in advance of interviews events and provide additional background or fact checking as appropriate
  • Ensure that CGI messaging and guidelines is correctly reflected throughout all media activity and process
  • Collaborate with key internal teams (e.g., editorial and industry councils etc.) to ensure alignment and input on content and trends related to earned media strategy and coverage opportunities
  • Monitor industry news channels for trending topics and make recommendations for newsworthy content development – working with the Editorial team
  • Monitor outcomes of media interactions and provide coverage reports for internal visibility
  • Provide on-site presence where needed
  • Best Practice and Governance
  • Provide counsel to global teams on networking and building media contacts
  • Ensure the adherence to Global Media governance, processes, guidelines, best practices, and tools to drive the adoption of media strategies
  • Provide coaching to the Marketing and Communications community on best practices for media outreach and pitching
  • Measure and monitor the impact of press releases and traditional and trade media coverage


Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
  • Experience in interacting and building relationships with media, including translating “corporate” and “technical” speak to a journalist audience
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to engage all levels of the organization including senior management
  • Strong interpersonal, networking and relationship skills
  • Ability to see the big picture while supporting multiple strategies and efforts across various channels globally
  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively across geography whilst understanding cultural differences
  • Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a media relations or public relations role, ideally in a professional services, technology or related industry; or in an agency
  • A thorough understanding of the media landscape, in particular, the business and trade press and an excellent media handler
  • Proficiency in interacting and pitching to media across multiple geographies
  • Proven ability to support and counsel senior leaders on media-related matters
  • Experience within the technology and/or B2B services space is a plus
