Global Head of Sustainability

New York, NY

The Global Head of Sustainability will be responsible for designing, leading and executing all aspects of WeWork’s sustainability strategy throughout the organization. The role will focus on implementing best practices across WeWork and will maintain responsibility for achieving sustainability goals related to the company’s ESG initiatives and other emerging areas of responsible business practices. 


This position reports to the President & Chief Operating Officer and will lead a team to develop enterprise social responsibility and ESG initiatives that drive business value, social good and elevate our reputation with WeWork’s employees, members and shareholders.


In this role, you will:

  • Define the company’s global CSR and ESG philosophy, strategy, and priorities
  • Oversee the enterprise-wide development and implementation of plans to meet sustainability goals and ensure compliance to related policies
  • Develop the environmental sustainability reporting strategy and manage related data collection needs
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of environmental sustainability initiatives
  • Serve as the primary thought leader in the ongoing development of global environmental sustainability goals and policies 


About You

  • 12+ years of experience in Sustainability work or related field; deep expertise across corporate social responsibility, environmental sustainability, climate, and/or strategy development
  • 3+ years of people management experience; track record of managing and advancing broad-based corporate environmental sustainability programs and initiatives
  • Understanding of the evolving expectations for responsibility and sustainability among various stakeholders (e.g. shareholders, ESG ratings agencies, government, NGOs, etc.)
  • Experience developing a robust environmental sustainability metrics and reporting plan, including expertise with relevant toolsets and frameworks and specific experience reporting through CDP and TFCD
  • Success leading large-scale initiatives, engaging a variety of stakeholders, and influencing without direct authority
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team and proactively nurture relationships with a diverse range of internal and external partners and constituencies
  • Established network across public and private sectors in the sustainability space
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to translate complex environmental matters into clear, easy to understand communications for leaders outside the sustainability space
  • Results oriented, with a track record of delivering against sustainability goals, including interim targets
  • Highly effective at balancing business needs and realities with sustainability objectives in order to deliver an ambitious yet feasible strategy and plan
  • Strong initiative and ability to think creatively
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field; Advanced degree preferred
