Global Creative Design Director

Ventura, CA

As the Global Creative Design Director, you will be responsible for leading and creating design led communication concepts across all channels and global regions. You will shape the creative design process across all projects, platforms and campaigns in order to drive innovation, design excellence, consistency and quality and output that stands the test of time. Through your leadership and creative vision, Patagonia’s design output will continue to play a critical role in inspiring citizens towards environmental and social action and amplifying our purpose, to save our home planet.


You will directly manage an internal team of designers across product, brand, digital and environmental design, collaborating deeply with the broader Creative Studio teams including Copy, Film, Photo, and Books as well as the wider Storytelling & Impact teams. With a deep knowledge and passion for activist and sport communities, you will inspire your team to lead with community-centered thinking and radical production communication ideas.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead all global creative design functions across product and brand, digital and environmental (3D) design
  • Drive creative ideas that spark connections with the natural world and incite citizens to take action in support of our home planet.
  • Ensure design harmony across all brand and product communication touchpoints
  • Support the growth and development of a thriving team culture based on openness, trust and collaboration
  • Challenge the status quo and inspire constant fresh thinking and innovation across all design disciplines
  • Support the responsible business strategy via radical product communication ideas 
  • Demonstrate deep collaboration with, and support for Copy, Photo, Patagonia Films, Patagonia Books
  • Work with business units to ensure empathy between product design and graphic design.
  • Develop and manage relationships with external creative partner expertise where required
  • Work with Creative Operations to ensure that quality, budgets and timelines are met.
  • Embed deep digital thinking and expertise into the team, the culture and the creative process
  • Ensure creative output that stands the test of time; that is neither disposable nor trend-driven

Experience you bring:

  • 10+ years experience in creative design leadership.
  • Experience leading brand, content, digital and communication design, with substantial exposure to a wide variety of disciplines and channels.
  • Experience creating and implementing design standards
  • Superior knowledge of the creative process and what it takes to lead a large team across multiple departments, regions and stakeholders to deliver industry changing communications.
  • International experiences in the sport and or lifestyle markets.
