General Accountant

The General Accountant is responsible for managing WeedMD’s legal entity general ledgers, including Accounts Payable, and maintaining appropriate financial documentation through an organized filing/tracking system. Other responsibilities include producing monthly financial reports, managing and/or preparing accurate monthly remittances; assisting with quarterly review and annual audit working papers, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and vouchering, updating the internal database and administrative duties related to finance and record keeping. Other duties as assigned, and as necessary.


Job Duties

  • Maintaining an organized filing/tracking system for all financial documents
  • Prepare journal entries, invoices and purchase orders
  • Act as first line contact with vendors regarding billing problems
  • Manage accounts payable and receivables and ensure accurate processing of monthly remittances
  • Manage and reconcile monthly accruals and vendor balances
  • Maintain the General ledger and sub ledgers and manage month End closing process
  • Produce monthly financial reports
  • Prepare GST/HST remittances, Excise tax working papers
  • Assist with audit inquiries
  • Maintain fixed assets schedule
  • Ensure tracking and reconciliation of Inter-company transactions
  • Store, update and retrieve financial data.
  • Manage and/or Process claims and vouchers for payment
  • Assistant in monthly comparison to budget/plan
  • Serve as a back-up for various accounting and administrative functions
  • Support the team on ad-hoc projects.
  • Other duties as required


Requirements

  • (3) years of experience in similar role
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • Experience in a manufacturing/agriculture environment is a must
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS
  • Advanced proficiency with Sage X3 accounting software and spreadsheet programs and applications an asset.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, in an ambiguous and developing structure
  • Ability to comfortably interact with senior management in a professional manner
  • Track record of meeting tight working deadlines, and prioritizing workload are essential
  • Experience working in a public company or large Public Accounting Firm supporting public company reporting is required
  • Some travel may be required
