Food Safety and QA Manager

What You Will Do

Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager (FSQAM) is responsible for implementing structures, processes, and cultivate behaviors to achieve performance targets and acquire a GFSI certification. You will ensure our production center(s) are in compliance with all relevant food safety regulations to successfully pass audits and elevate the customer experience.


As a FSQAM, you will focus on development of quality improvement plans, analysis, continuous improvement, and execution of strategic plans to achieve performance targets as they relate to food safety and quality assurance. You will be evaluated based on key performance indicators within your specific areas and will work closely with the leadership and management teams across the company to drive expected results. FSQAM is responsible for supporting delivery to key targets for safety, cost, quality, delivery, and sustainability targets of the plant. 


The position's key responsibilities include the following:  

  • The FSQA Manager develops, implements, and monitors quality control programs to assure that quality, safety, and regulatory compliance standards are met for Peet’s products. The FSQA Manager is responsible for leading & performance management of a team of QA/QC Technicians in ensuring Peet’s product specifications and quality. The FSQA manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department in the roasting plant.
  • Acting Plant Quality Manager in the absence of Plant Quality Manager.
  • Collect and analyze quality assurance data/processes and make recommendations to continuously improve product quality and/or quality systems.
  • Oversee Quality and Food Safety Training and job aid development.
  • Ensure GMPs, SOPs, and food safety plans are up to date, are actionable for line-level employees and collaborates with plant department managers to ensure manufacturing meets GMP and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain third party audit requirements and documentation while coordinating with the Plant Quality Manger during completion of said audits.
  • Manages Organic certification for plant process and products and Leads Organic Audits
  • Investigate non-conforming product incidents and customer complaints, analyze root cause, and lead corrective action efforts. Assist with supplier quality and non-conforming material management.
  • Lead frequently schedule Trace Exercises
  • Manages scheduling of annual calibration for all quality testing equipment and ensures that they are in good working condition.
  • Assists in managing quarterly swabbing to obtain environmental samples, schedules pick up of samples by courier and send out to an outside accredited analytical lab for testing.
  • Manages annual potable water sample collection, schedules pick up of samples and send them out to an outside accredited analytical lab for testing.
  • Attends daily shift meetings and all weekly meetings that require QA representation such as, but not limited to, daily huddles, inventory and material holds.
  • Performs role with integrity, high sense of accountability, pursuing innovation, and delivering quality, driving continuous improvement & using resources wisely.


Who You Are

  • A "Can Do" and resourceful attitude & ability to work with diverse teams is a must have to succeed in this role.
  • Self-directed able to work autonomously by organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in quality assurance, Engineering, Science, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of prior food safety & quality assurance experience within supply chain and food manufacturing environments is required. Coffee manufacturing experience will be preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to uphold Peet’s quality standards.
  • Food safety education or equivalent certification or degree.
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF) experience and education.
  • PCQI and HACCP Certification is required. Experience as trained quality auditor preferred. 
  • In depth knowledge of 3rd party audit and regulatory compliance requirements of food manufacturing and distribution facility, GMP audits, AIB, Merieux NutriSciences (Silliker), BRC and or SQF.
  • Experience in developing Food Safety programs/documentations and training for a large, non-exempt staff.
  • Substantial experience in regulatory issues in the food industry.
  • Ability to train, influence and inspire managers and employees.
  • Ability to communicate, both spoken and written well with technical users, non-technical users, non-exempt employees and all teams within the organization.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems, D365 preferred.

Safety and Security: Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of all types of machining and fabrication techniques. Knowledge of manufacturing procedures and techniques.

The target annual base salary range for this position is $90,000-120,000.


The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.
