Finance Manager

Remote (United States) Santa Clara, CA

As a member of the Chegg Learn Finance organization, the Finance Manager is responsible for providing data-backed plans, forecasts, and performance insights for our customer success team known as Student Advocacy Team (SAT), our Textbook Rental business known as Required Materials and our Content CAPEX.

 

The Finance Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Finance and collaborates with others in the Finance, Analytics, and Operations department to deliver timely, actionable recommendations to our business partners.

 

The Finance Manager also partners across the organization, including with Product, PMO, Accounting, Reporting, and Operations teams, to optimize our processes in service of our students while balancing our financial performance objectives.

 

The Finance Manager engages in continuous process and system improvement initiatives in service of sustainable, long-term growth. The Finance Manager must be comfortable in a fast-paced and high-growth environment, see possibilities rather than challenges, and be passionate about data insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop annual plans and spend budgets, monthly forecasts, and performance reporting for our customer contact activities in the US and internationally. This includes:
  • Working with Customer Support (SAT) to forecast cost related to contacts and agent staffing using drivers such as active paying customers, order volume, and product engagement.
  • Monitoring and improving forecast accuracy by analyzing business drivers impacting contact volume and rate.
  • Working with the Required Materials team to do full P&L forecasting for the Textbook Rental business.
  • Assist in developing Content CAPEX KPI’s, such as active paying customers, questions asked, cost per answer, service level, ROI by subject and geography etc.
  • Do target setting for support operations’ performance KPIs such as wait time, cost per answer, service level, ROI, and growth contribution by topic and geography, etc. to align with budget. Collaborate with SAT Analytics and Reporting teams to facilitate communication and monitoring of KPIs
  • Leverage a deep understanding of business objectives, issues, and business drivers and provide insightful, fact-based data analysis to help solve complex problems.
  • Manage monthly partner and vendor spend including accruals, actuals vs. forecast variance analysis, and business analytics and scenario modeling.
  • Partner with functional managers to identify and evaluate dependencies (SAT, product, engineering, marketing, etc.) and financial opportunities to support growth and cost improvements.
  • Assess risks and opportunities and identify key operational and financial issues to be addressed. Provide data-backed recommendations to influence business decisions, which include presentations to senior management.
  • Actively partner with all levels of management to support cost improvement. Provide visibility and ad-hoc analysis for cost management and growth initiatives. Build reliable metrics, business cases, and financial models.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities in SAT, Required Materials, CAPEX Finance, Operations, Analytics, and Reporting by leveraging data and tools to improve the quality of business and financial information and the efficiency of our operational processes.

 

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of financial analysis experience in a high-tech, high-growth environment with demonstrated career advancement or equivalent experience. Experience working with Customer Contact Centers is a plus.
  • Superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Superior critical thinking, intellectual, and quantitative analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and initiate process improvement opportunities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated high energy/creativity, a relentless customer focus, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial reporting/planning systems such as Adaptive Planning. Advanced user of SQL and dashboarding tools such as Tableau/DOMO preferred.


The pay range for this position is $92,316 - $228,592. The actual pay will vary based on geographic location, job requirements, professional experience, and other factors.
