Ionis Pharmaceuticals is in the process of building and scaling its US commercial enterprise in preparation for its first ever independent launch. The next pivotal step in the company’s growth will be to install, within its US Market Access Leadership team, a strategic and operational market master in US Pricing & Contracting to step in as its inaugural Executive Director/Director Pricing & Contracting role. 


The Pricing & Contracting Head is a crucial role that is responsible for developing and executing strategic pricing and contracting strategies through all stages of IONIS’ product lifecycles to optimize patient access, brand value and overall competitive advantage.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The ideal candidate will:

  •  Serve as the functional owner for US Pricing & Contracting for IONIS’ US market access enterprise owning and developing the strategy, vision, and direction for the P&C capability as the company prepares for its first independent commercial launch. 
  •  Develop and implement pricing and contracting strategies for each brand that align with the company's overall commercial objectives
  •  Provides prognostic insight and advisoryship to senior leadership by staying abreast changes in the healthcare landscape that may compel IONIS to adjust pricing and contracting strategies accordingly
  •  Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and implementation of pricing and contracting processes and procedures
  •  Monitor market trends and competitor pricing strategies to inform decision making and ensure competitiveness in the market
  • Build an appropriate and scalable operating model leveraging 3rd party partnerships where appropriate to execute: Contract Analytics & Reporting, GTN Forecasting, Install Pricing Analytics capability, Contract Administration
  • Support accounting in conducting quarterly closes by forecasting discounts for reserve items
  • Government Pricing and State Transparency Reporting processes, pricing calculation validations
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies related to pricing and contracting
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability within the team and across the organization upholding behavioral excellence standards that map to IONIS’ values
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of professionals to ensure the timely and effective execution of pricing and contracting initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and finance, to develop pricing and contracting strategies that support the fundamental to ensure successful product commercialization and optimal profitability
  • Prioritize, communicate, and present pricing and contracting updates and strategies to internal stakeholders and senior management so IONIS can achieve access and profitability goals
  • Represent the company in meetings and negotiations with external stakeholders to advocate for the company's pricing and contracting interests


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an analytical area of study (finance, accounting); MBA preferred
  • Deep expertise in building and owning pricing & contracting strategy capabilities in pharma/ biotech
  • Enterprise level market mastery in the analytical methodology and rigor to drive best in class execution of pricing and contracting analytics, including GTN forecasting
  • Experience and leadership in developing contract proposals (financial models, GTN implications, and ROI analysis for evaluation) and effective negotiation strategy
  • Strong knowledge of systems and reporting mechanisms that supports pharmaceutical contract administration across customers (payer, provider, government, SPs, etc)
  • Expert level knowledge of the pharmacy and medical benefits, Medicare (FFS and Managed), Medicaid, and Federal purchasing programs
  • Subject matter expertise on IRA and its financial risks and opportunities to organization
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to variety of audiences
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.


The pay scale for this position is $191,763 to $274,040

The pay scale for the Director position is $191,763 to $248,779

The pay scale for the Executive Director position is $233,590 to $274,040.
