Environmental Specialist

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an opening for a dynamic Environmental Specialist. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail, and materials disciplines. We are the multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. You will work with senior environmental managers to ensure that complex construction projects are planned, designed, and constructed in an environmentally friendly way. You will use your education and experience to identify risk, communicate with the project team, and find a solution to difficult environmental challenges. You will learn to determine permitting needs of some of the largest infrastructure projects in the nation and will work to complete these projects with a focus on building a more sustainable world.


Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of complex projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. LOCATION

This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review project documents to identify and communicate environmental risks to the project team.
  • Review documents for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, and Section 404/401 of the Clean Water Act, and Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.
  • Identify permit requirements of a project on a federal, state, and local level, and work in an electronic database to track these permits.
  • Forecast, track and communicate environmental costs.


Review and develop environmental plans to address the following:

  • Wetlands
  • Noise
  • Water Quality
  • Waste management
  • Wildlife surveys
  • Hazardous materials 
  • Mitigation plans for adverse impacts   
  • Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training. 
  • Manage environmental subconsultant budget and schedules.
  • Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings avoiding and minimizing adverse effects to the natural environment and local communities.
  • Develop SPCC and SWPPP plans.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 + years of environmental regulatory experience  
  • 4 years degree in an environmental science or engineering field.
  • Basic knowledge of State(s) and Federal environmental regulations.
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative.
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity.
  • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Base Compensation: $62,301 - $93,451 


(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
