Environmental Specialist

Charleston, SC

The role of Environmental Specialist will play a key role in coordinating environment-friendly projects and work within Volvo Cars to minimize cost and any environmental impact from the operations at the Ridgeville Facility. This position will support the environmental areas of responsibility in relation to air and water emissions, waste management, as well as the implementation and oversight of ISO 14001, Volvo’s environmental management system. The position will play a key role in the sustainability planning for Volvo’s goals as operations expand at the Ridgeville Facility.

 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Implement, coordinate and maintain environmental protection activities to verify compliance with all Volvo and State, Local and Federal Environmental Regulatory requirements. 
  • Support plant environmental coordinators and provide guidance and interpretation of all environmental regulatory requirements as they relate to the production activities. 
  • Perform measurements, analysis and appropriate reporting according to legal requirements. 
  • Continuously be updated and be proactive concerning new legal requirements. 
  • Develop and implement specific Programs and Policies as needed to maintain full compliance with all applicable requirements. 
  • Liaising with key stakeholders to develop their sustainability strategies
  • Identifying sustainability risks and appropriate mitigation measures and highlighting any opportunities to increase the organisation’s sustainability credentials
  • Identify feasible sustainable operations concepts on behalf of the facility

 

Job Specifications:

  • 4-year degree in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Environmental Science or equivalent
  • 6-10 years’ experience in an Environmental role, preferably in automotive or other manufacturing industry.
  • Strong background in US Environmental Regulations and policies across all medias
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Team player, strong social abilities. 
  • Preferred certified Lead Auditor - ISO 14001. 
  • Knowledge of auto industry or similar manufacturing industry.
  • Project and time management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills as well as advanced analytical and critical  thinking skills.
