Environmental Manager

This position will be responsible for providing environmental permitting and compliance support for the Vistra Zero and development projects. This position may or may not have direct reports. This position will have a dedicated dotted line to the Development Group but report through Corp. Environmental.Job Description


Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide environmental support for a wide variety of Vistra Zero and development projects at new and/or existing sites.  This could include, but is not limited to, battery installation, solar installation, carbon capture projects, hydrogen fuel projects, and other technologies that meet the Vistra Zero objective.
  • Support Vistra power generation development with environmental consulting efforts including reviewing deliverable reports and environmental due diligence studies and identifying potential risks around new and existing sites
  • Ensure that all applicable environmental reports and studies are performed in accordance with Vistra Environmental standards, and necessary permits are obtained, revised, and/or amended. Analyze, prepare, coordinate, and ensure timely submittal of all environmental reports and regulatory compliance notifications under guidance from Vistra Development.
  • Communicate applicable requirements, technical issues, and regulatory timelines to the Vistra Development and Environmental teams.
  • Support the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs for the sites from the construction phase through ongoing operational status.
  • Review and summarize compliance obligations for all final rules on applicable existing and proposed laws and regulations.
  • Interface with regulators, on environmental issues.


Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience working with and providing oversight of environmental regulatory compliance (e.g. NEPA, CWA, RCRA, CAA, etc.).
  • Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills.
  • Broad-based knowledge of environmental laws and regulations and state or local equivalent programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple activities at one time.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent written and oral communication skills, including procedures development and implementation.
  • Experience with delivering communications and training related to environmental compliance, corrective actions, lessons learned, etc.

  • Strong skillset in resolving technical issues, to ensure environmental compliance
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Maintains relationships with regulatory agencies, serving as the primary liaison
  • Shows upmost integrity and complies with Vistra Values


Position will require ~25% travel. This includes travel to Texas sites primarily, but may also require travel to support sites in California. The position will office at either Royal Lane or a plant or mine in Texas, or in California.
