Environmental Manager

Bechtel Infrastructure, along with key sub-vendors Bantrel and Comtech, has been appointed the Delivery Partner role within an integrated team with the customer, Metrolinx, for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project. The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 16km of new alignment, 15 new stations and related works being performed by three key P3 Contractors and multiple advanced early works (EAW) packages Contractors. Bechtel’s team forms the key component of the overall leadership team, having delivery partner responsibilities supported by two other components, Technical Advisor (TA) and Program Controls Services Consultant (PCSC).

 

Responsibilities

  • Support Environmental programs and resolution of Environmental issues on the Ontario Line Project
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance on environmental policies and programs which bear critical importance to overall program objectives
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight on environmental initiatives including due diligence, complex environmental and regulatory issues, environmental permits and approvals, and other environmental studies
  • Work in collaboration with Project Delivery Teams, EPA, TA and other internal/external stakeholders to develop, implement and manage an environmental strategy
  • Review mapping of environmental sensitive areas and determine potential impact due to construction activities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and mitigate/manage environmental risks
  • Oversee and monitor the appropriate application of environmental regulatory requirements to projects
  • Act as liaison, or support Metrolinx EPA for key external stakeholders relations and communications, including regulatory bodies and maintain relationships with key regulators such as MECP, MNRF, MCM, municipalities and Conservation Authorities
  • Support Metrolinx EPA in consultation and engagement with Indigenous communities and Nations on environmental matters
  • Oversee the Environmental Compliance Officers for monitoring of project sites to ensure environmental compliance to the Contract requirements, regulatory standard and procedures
  • Monitor, log and report on environmental requirements of the Project

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • University Degree in related discipline (Planning, Environmental or Geological Sciences or Engineering)
  • 8 to 10 years of environmental/industry work experience in construction industry.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience effectively liaising with regulatory bodies at all levels of government (e.g. federal agencies, provincial ministries, Conservation Authorities, municipalities), Indigenous communities and stakeholder groups
  • Knowledge of Ontario and Canadian applicable law including relating to EA process, noise and vibration, air quality, contamination, archaeology, built heritage, natural environment and species at risk.
  • Excellent leadership skills to act as a role model, promoting a positive influence on the work of others through demonstration of collaboration, technical expertise and effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish collaborative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
