We’re looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to grow with us at our Fort Madison, Iowa Liquids Facility!


If you enjoy a fast-paced, high energy and seasonal manufacturing environment then you will fit in well as an EH&S Manager for ScottsMiracle-Gro. On a day-to-day basis, you will develop, implement, and manage environmental, health, safety, and security programs at our Fort Madison, Iowa liquids manufacturing facility. 


You will be responsible for federal and state regulatory aspects of safety and environmental programs, including compliance with OSHA, EPA, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources. We want you to challenge the status quo, improve existing systems and lead the facility's overarching EH&S strategy.

 

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Assume a leadership role in developing and promoting a positive EH&S culture by maintaining a visible presence in all plant areas.
  • Establish and lead the implementation of site safety and environmental programs for all levels of the facilities.
  •  Administer site safety and environmental training.
  • Promote the facility’s EH&S image in the community through involvement with various community and local emergency organizations.
  • Support new products and project development within the plant and ensure that all federal, state, local, and company EH&S requirements are met concerning products and projects.
  • Participate in the Leadership team and manage the departmental budget.
  • Manage federal and state regulatory aspects of safety and environmental programs, including compliance with OSHA, DOT, and EPA, as well as other applicable regulations, company requirements, and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA regulations. Maintain SPCC, RCRA, Storm Water and Security protection plans, NPDES, and air permits.
  • Maintain facility emergency response plans.
  • Interface with Federal, State & Local government agencies.
  • Maintain and improve hazardous waste handling procedures and training requirements.
  • Utilize/Modify existing systems and programs to identify safety trends and establish corrective actions to permanently reduce facility incidents.
  • Establish and develop capital projects designed to improve safety and environmental aspects of the facility.
  • Review assembly processes and identify plans to reduce hazards and/or risks.
  • Manage corporate EH&S reporting and systems.
  • Manage and implement incident investigations and corresponding corrective actions.


What you’ll need to be successful:

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health or Safety, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in the Environmental, Health, and Safety field or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA, FIFRA, air, and DOT regulations.
  • Working knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and standards, including waste, transportation, stormwater, drinking water, air, etc.
  • Knowledge of data management systems and tools, Google Suite, ProcessMap/EHS Management software, and SAP experience is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.


The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $121,400.00 - $142,800.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
