Engineering Lead

Cambridge, MA

We’re looking to add an Engineering Lead to our Product Security team. This person will be hands-on and close to the code while also having the opportunity to grow successful direct reports, and run productive teams. The Engineering Lead oversees a small family of teams and provides technical, product, and team level leadership to those teams.

The Product Security team is responsible for detecting, preventing and mitigating abuse and unauthorized access on the HubSpot platform. The teams you would be leading work on features that include Abusive Content Detection via Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Know Your Customer (KYC) and Abusive Behavior Detections via our home grown Risk Analysis Engine as well as Transaction Fraud Identification for our Commerce product. These teams allow our customers to have trust in HubSpot to keep their data safe and also protect the internet at large from large scale phishing, malware, or other abusive attacks. The team is composed of engineers, data analysts, and product managers that work together to model attack vectors and provide solutions to reduce and eliminate the surface area of those vectors. They also provide tooling to our internal Trust & Safety team to support their needs in dealing with product abuse.

Key Expectations for Engineering Leads:

  • Engineering Leads are actively involved as a player-coach in building software and making products to solve customer problems. They are curious and involved in the technology as well as the people on their teams.
  • They have a strong technical vision for how to implement the product vision. This can include working with teams they oversee and external teams to ensure that we are solving problems the best way for customers.
  • They think about and implement ideas to push teams to improve technically.
  • They work effectively across Product Managers, Data Analysts and Designers to cultivate a strong product vision for their teams, and are responsible for the mission, direction, and alignment.
  • They are responsible for the engineers on their team and provide mentoring, coaching, and feedback to help them grow and succeed in their role.
  • They create and foster diverse teams and an inclusive culture.

We’re looking for:

  • A strong backend engineer with experience leading small teams
  • Background or interest in developing services using Java
  • Background or interest in Trust & Safety engineering systems/concepts
  • A leader with a data driven mindset for solving problems
  • If you’re an engineering leader of any level or experience, and if this resonates with you, let’s talk.
